GEORGE LAURA AND MARY JANE

Plane carrying George W. Bush diverted after smell of smoke

From Jake Carpenter and Shawn Nottingham, CNN
updated 4:33 AM EDT, Sun June 16, 2013

George:

Honey, let’s smoke some Mary Jane.

Laura:

Honey, do you have to call it Mary Jane?

George:

What do you want me to call it?

Laura:

Weed.

George:

How about pot?

Laura:

No.  Let’s just stick to Mary Jane, then.

George:

Oh boy, I think this is Columbian gold, and not too many seeds either.

Laura:

Good.

The last time a seed popped and nearly took out my left eye.

George:

O.K.

Where’s the lighter?

Laura:

I don’t know, but I’ve got a book of matches.

George:

O.K.

Strike up the band!

Strike a match!

Laura:

Gosh, it’s been so long since I’ve used any matches.

George:

Go for it, honey.

Let her rip!

Laura:

Maybe I’ll use two just to make sure they get lit.

George:

Sure.

Knock yourself out.

Laura:

Oh, George, isn’t this exciting?

George:

It sure is, but hurry up, the plane’s going to land any minute.

Laura:

(She strikes two matches, but the entire book ignites, and her negligee catches fire.)

George, quick, get the fire extinguisher!

George:

(He can’t find the extinguisher, so he grabs a seltzer bottle, and sprays Laura.)

Laura:

Now I’m smoking!

What a smell!

(The fire alarm goes off.)

George:

Stash the weed!

It looks like we’re making an emergency landing.

Laura:

I guess we’ll have to wait until we get back to the ranch.

George:

Yep.

Mary Jane will just have to wait.

MEN MINNOWS AND MELANCHOLIA

“Scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee found that minnows administered Prozac became aggressive, anti-social and sometimes homicidal.”

It’s a large leap---that is jump---to go from minnow to human, especially when going upstream.

I don’t know what that means, but it sounded good.

*

Why not just study statistics of people who ingest Prozac?

Do they become aggressive, anti-social, and sometimes homicidal?

I know I do, and I’ve never used Prozac.

*

It always seems unfair to use monkeys, mice, or minnows as guinea pigs when testing this drug or that chemical to see what effect the drug or chemical may have on HUMANS.

Leave the poor creatures alone!

Test the humans, not them.

IT'S SPYING TIME AGAIN

I have been so busy scrambling to delete and disconnect myself from my phone, my email, my mailbox, etc., plus buying lots of aluminum foil to cover my house and head, that I haven't had much time to write, so I've reposted something that I wrote over eight years ago that fits what is happening today (or the day before yesterday) and tomorrow.

P.S.
Actually, I did start to write something before I became swathed in tinfoil and paranoia:

NOBODY IS LISTENING TO YOUR TELEPHONE CALLS

That’s right.

Nobody is listening to your telephone calls, but they are checking your emails and your Facebook, and checking them twice to see if you’ve been naughty or nice.

Nobody is listening, but sophisticated satellites orbiting above you can see you and hear you, if they need to.

Homer called Ulysses Nobody in The Odyssey, but when the U.S. Government says nobody, it means everybody.

“He [Edward Snowden] only told the world a large truth to prevent war.  The U.S. capitalist elite are trying to control the world and are spying on friends, foes and the entire planet.”

President of Venezuela

NSA surveillance may be legal — but it’s unconstitutional

The National Security Agency’s recently revealed surveillance programs undermine the purpose of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which was established to prevent this kind of overreach. They violate the Fourth Amendment’s guarantee against unreasonable search and seizure. And they underscore the dangers of growing executive power.
By Laura K. Donohue, professor at Georgetown University Law Center and director of Georgetown’s Center on National Security and the Law.

Security Agency in these terms:

"I know the capacity that is there to make tyranny
total in America, and we must see to it that this
agency and all agencies that possess this technology
operate within the law and under proper supervision,
so that we never cross over that abyss. That is the
abyss from which there is no return."

The dangerous prospect of which he warned was that
America's intelligence gathering capability – which is today
beyond any comparison with what existed in his pre-digital
era – "at any time could be turned around on the American
people and no American would have any privacy left."
That has now happened. That is what Snowden has
exposed, with official, secret documents.
The NSA, FBI and CIA have, with the new digital
technology, surveillance powers over our own citizens that
the Stasi – the secret police in the former "democratic
republic" of East Germany – could scarcely have dreamed of.
Snowden reveals that the so-called intelligence community
has become the United Stasi of America.

Snowden's whistleblowing gives us a chance to roll back what is tantamount to an 'executive coup' against the US constitution

Mad Plato has just learned that Homeland Security's TIA (or
Terrorist Information Awareness) has been monitoring some recent phone
calls made by Mad Plato.

Words that are inside of TIA's computer database, which indicate
some type of potential terrorist activity, will trigger the computers to
cherry-pick such words out of the air from telephone conversations, and
then store them inside of TIA computers for review and analysis.

Here are some pieces of conversations that have been intercepted by TIA:

"Hi Mad Plato. Boy, the party at Sharon's last week was a real bomb!"

"By the way, Bill, were you planning to fire any rockets this Fourth
of July?"

"Yes, Bill, I'll be heading with Aziz, Mark, and Robin to the retreat
next week."

"Wow! I bet you had a blast in Spain last weekend."

So, citizens, be careful what you say on the telephone. Homeland
Security is listening to you. What you say may reward you with a visit
by an agent of Homeland Security. Wait, I hear a knock at my door right
now...and the phone is ringing. I must go. Goodbye.

And here is this from “Is it time to do away with Homeland Security?"

By Thom Hartman

June 8, 2013

Because here’s the scariest thing of all:  PRISM, just like the NSA’s phone records collection program, is perfectly legal. Arguably unconstitutional and totalitarian, yes, but, at the moment, legal. PRISM is authorized by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, and the NSA’s metadata sweeps are allowed under the broad guidelines of Section 215 of the Patriot Act – both acts of Congress.

The frightened little men of the Bush Administration took us into some dark places after 9/11 – but Congress and President Obama have tragically continued these exact same policies. Just this past December, Congress reauthorized an amended version of the FISA act and the President signed it without complaint.

Concentration of responsibility becomes concentration of power – and because most of our intelligence and police power has been concentrated in one agency – the DHS - that agency has become way too powerful, with no checks and balances.  In effect, it's created an entire surveillance industry around itself, and it's time to shut it down.

How did this happen?  In a way, it was predictable, a replay of Eisenhower’s warning.

As Deepthroat famously told Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein – “Follow the money.”

Who benefits from our nation's addiction to out-of-control “security”? The military-industrial-security complex.  Providing support and equipment and consultants to DHS has now become a trillion-dollar for-profit industry.

This is not good for the United States.

When the worst abuses of the old East German STASI become the standard policies of what Thomas Jefferson once called “the world’s last best hope” – it is time for a change.

Because as Jefferson’s fellow founder, Benjamin Franklin said, “those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither.”

Repeal the PATRIOT Act, dissolve the DHS, and let's return to sanity.

"But because genuinely dangerous people will often be pre-empted or more swiftly caught, the privacy-for-security swap will seem like a reasonable trade-off to many Americans — especially when there is no obvious alternative short of disconnecting from the Internet entirely.
Welcome to the future. Just make sure you don’t have anything to hide."

CYBERNETIC IMMORTALITY

“…scientists are taking tiny, incremental steps toward melding humans and machine all the time. Ray Kurzweil, the futurist and now Google’s director of engineering, argued in “The Singularity Is Near,” a 2005 book, that technology is advancing exponentially and that ‘human life will be irreversibly transformed’  to the point that there will be no difference between ‘human and machine or between physical and virtual reality.’”

A little taste of this is happening right now before our eyes, and perhaps soon, inside of our minds.

3-D is not something new, but it is becoming more and more sophisticated, and like TV and RADIO, 3D will also become mainstream and commonplace.

Google glasses are only a first step in a tall staircase of wonders (or blunders?) to come.

Electronic Miniaturization is happening at lightning speed.

The trash heaps and recycle factories can’t keep up with it all.

*

“At the Swarm Lab, Peter Ledochowitsch, a researcher with a thick red beard, described a minimally invasive brain implant designed to read intentions from the surface of the brain. So far, the device has been implanted in an anesthetized rat; a prototype for alert animals is in the works. But eventually, he said, it would allow paralyzed people to communicate, or to control a robotic arm or a wheelchair. It could also allow you to start your car if you think, ‘Start my car.’”

I think, therefore I am?

No, I think, and it happens!

This reminds me of the alleged reports where one of the tribes of aliens can read our minds.

Yeah, sure.

*

“‘Look at this,’ he (Dmitry Itskov)  said, opening his laptop on the table and starting a slide show with one heartbreaking statistic after another: Almost one billion people are now starving. Forty-nine countries are currently involved in military conflict. Ten percent of people are disabled. And so on.”

“‘That is the picture of this world that we created, with the minds we have today, with our set of values, with our egotism, our selfishness, our aggression,’ he went on. ‘Most of the world is suffering. What we’re doing here does not look like the behavior of grown-ups. We’re killing the planet and killing ourselves.’”

Sounds like another Utopia chaser.

How long have philosophers moaned about how terrible we are as humans (monsters?)?

But has this moaning ever changed anything?

Prophets are always shot or hung.

El Diablo seems to have the upper hand.

*

“TO change that picture, he reasons, we must change our minds, or give them a chance to evolve,’ to use one of his favorite words. Before our minds can evolve, though, we need a new paradigm of what it means to be human. That requires a transition to a world where most people aren’t consumed by the basic questions of survival.”

But untold by Mr. Itskov are the processes and methods that will be used to change our minds, and the current La condition humaine and its destiny.

Is this “evolution” to be done through genetic and mechanical manipulation?

I need to bring up those creepy aliens once again, because there are some humans who claim that aliens (the good or bad ones?), have been tinkering with and manipulating humans for some time.

Who knows?
Maybe Dmitry Itskov is an example.
It's not just a movie anymore.
