AFGHANISTAN

“The real goal of the invasion was vengeance for 9/11. All the promises of liberation and democracy were just a PR-ploy to make Americans feel better about seeking revenge.”
Sonali Kolhatkar
“In the parts of the country with the heaviest concentrations of US/NATO troops, Afghans are frequently rounded-up, detained, tortured, bombed, or shot by foreign troops just as in Iraq.”
Sonali Kolhatkar
“The fighters that are called the ‘Taliban’ are actually a mix of ‘former’ Taliban and newly enlisted Pashtun fighters trained in Pakistan. Many of them are just disgruntled Afghan civilians whose families and loved ones have been killed and/or tortured by US/NATO forces. Recruiting is always easy when you can show that foreign soldiers are killing more civilians that the ‘so-called’ enemy. But we should be careful to not glorify the resistance. It is strictly fundamentalist and would not be a good option for Afghans in terms of future leadership. The vast majority of Afghans are moderate Muslims who strongly disagree with the Taliban's extremist ideology, but they have joined the struggle to bring an end to the occupation.”

Afghanistan

Echoes of Tamerlane, Genghis Khan and
Alexander were found in tourquoise, opal and
Amethyst dreams,
Young vagabonds slept on Persian rugs
Beneath Heaven's green pastures far below
Tall Buddhas on Bamian's plains.
While bright on earth green grass grew under
Falling rain, above the sky lit up dark
Echoed man's last refrain:
'We hail the rains to bring us back to life;
We hail the rains to remove this mortal rule
of knife.' But thunder shouted and sirens cried,
People hurried, they fought and died.
Echoes of Tamerlane, Genghis Khan and
Alexander were found in tourquoise, opal and
Amethyst dreams,
Young vagabonds slept on Persian rugs
Beneath Heaven's green pastures
Far below tall Buddhas on Bamian's plains

SLAMMING DOORS IN HELL

It’s a bad habit of mine.

I slam doors when I’m angry.

I never hurt anyone, or want to do physical harm to anyone.

I just vent my frustration by slamming doors.

It’s not good for the doors, or for others who have to hear the noise.

I need to stop slamming doors.

Maybe I’ll try the windows instead.

Q & A

Is this the right time for Barack Obama to take a vacation?

Barack Obama deserves a rock to sit on and an ocean to swim in for a week.

It’s just too bad that Mr. Obama couldn’t vacation at an “undisclosed location”, like “Dick the WMD Quack” Cheney.

I suppose that the media would then accuse Obama of hiding something.

As for the negative attacks, let McCain continue to sling his balls of mud and fire his outrageous arrows, but it may be better for Obama if he does not “take arms” against McCain's sea of negative ads, because by opposing them he may not end them or increase his poll numbers.

What’s your prediction for the U.S. economy twelve months from now?

One moment while I get out my Ouija board.

O.K.

Here’s what I predict for the U.S. economy:

In twelve months we will be paying about $9 per gallon for gas (even though prices are falling now) because Israel couldn’t wait to bomb Iran.

The Stock Market will be where it was in the late 1980s.

Prices for meat, milk and vegetables will be out of this world.

The aliens will finally tell us who they are, where they’re from, and what they’re going to do to us next.

Are political TV ads informative or annoying?

They are more amusing than they are annoying or informative.

America is the entertainment capital of the world, and we love to laugh.

Politicians think that they must entertain us in order to win our votes, but a few jokes can sometimes be a few too many.

Obama has made me laugh quite a few times, not at him personally, but what and how he has said things about his opponent.

McCain makes me laugh when he believes he’s funny when is really isn’t.

Please leave the jokes to Leno, Letterman, and Stewart.

I want leaders, not stand-up comics.

Do you think Hillary Clinton wants Barack Obama to win?

She doesn’t want Barack Obama to lose; she just prefers to be the winner.

It is so obvious that hubby Bill wants her to keep “running” (on empty?).

If she does submit her application to be counted at the convention, McCain is going to be gushing more than just oil.

Mrs. Clinton’s obduracy may swing voters to McCain’s geriatric side, and he may very well prevail in November.

I guess Hillary also thinks that her chances to be chosen VP are zip.

How much faith do you have in Barack Obama or John McCain to solve our energy problems?

I’m not that religious, so I don’t have a lot of faith, but Obama is the more forward-thinking candidate on our energy problems.

I would rather see our planet get off of the old roads that have paved the way for extreme weather and quickly melting ice caps and glaciers.

McCain is holding on to the purse strings of the oil and nuclear options.

Obama is trying to reverse the destiny that is promised if we continue to do the “same old same old.”

Two roads are being offered to us, but only one can be taken.

I prefer Obama’s road.

What should Americans do so that all of us aren’t overweight in 40 years?

We’ve become addicts to finger-licking good and greasy victuals.

I can’t resist the fries, burgers, enchiladas, tacos, and T-bone steaks.

I’m trying to eat more vegetables.

It’s not easy when our country is surrounded by golden arches and when we allow burger kings to rule our lives.

Revolution is the answer!

But first, I have to take my TV dinner out of the microwave oven.

EIGHT EIGHT EIGHT

This unimportant trivia pricked my ears.
Today is August 8, 2008
OR
08-08-08
AND
There are 88 days until the election for a new U.S. president.
What can this mean?
I am worried.
It has to mean something.
Or maybe not.

Well, it DOES mean something.
I found this information:

Eight is considered a lucky number in China and elsewhere and is so auspicious that the Summer Olympics began at precisely 8:08 p.m.

Q & A

Should Barack Obama be seriously considering Hillary Clinton for V.P.?

Is blood red?

Is the Pope Catholic?

Why has Barack Obama changed his tune when it comes to offshore drilling?

Obama may soon overtake John McChamelon in the number of flip-flops on issues.

It makes me wonder who is the more stable and reliable candidate.

Bullet-ducking Hillary Clinton…

Where are you?

What should be done to save Afghanistan?

Look at what happened to the Russians when they wanted to “save” Afghanistan.

Keep sending soldiers and tanks and bombs…keep flying drones…keep firing missiles…but in the end, America will not be able to win.

What is won after thousands and thousands of Americans die along with thousands and thousands more of Afghan citizens?

It is a losing battle if a war cannot be won.

Leave Afghanistan.

But first, get NATO and the world community to BURN AND DESTROY ALL OF THE POPPY FIELDS, or are other governments "on the take"?

Ridding the Taliban of their financial base might save Afghanistan faster than all of the bombs in the world.

What does it mean if the White House ordered the CIA to forge a letter in order to bolster its case for war in Iraq?

It means that Congress should begin impeachment hearings on George W. Bush and his administration immediately.

Before the Long War Liar-Decider-in-Chief begins bombing and killing civilians in Iran; before Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, Rove, Rice, Tenet and others receive their pardon from George W. Bush.

Plus, I really can’t afford higher gas prices.

As president, which candidate would be more sympathetic
to the big oil companies: John McCain or Barack Obama?

Of the two candidates, McCain is the older dinosaur and closest to the time when he will become dinosaur sludge that can be located in an oil deposit and become refined.

My money is on McCain the Driller as the one who will receive and give more sympathy to the oil companies.

How important is it for the next president to understand computer technology?

It’s not that important to understand the technology, but it’s important to use this technology.

I don’t know much about the technology, but I use my computer all the time.

Former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton allegedly didn’t know how to type, but that didn’t stop them from using a computer or writing their books.

I’m sure that Barack Obama knows more about computer technology than John McCain, who won’t use his computer unless it can drill for oil or operate a nuclear reactor.

What should be done about Iraq’s potential $80 billion oil surplus?

Spend it on infrastructure, infrastructure, and infrastructure.

But don’t use this money until the occupation ends.

It will be more peaceful when U.S. troops have left Iraq.

The suicide bombers and insurgents, if they continued to destroy their country and kill each other, would only be hurting themselves.

With the U.S. gone, maybe Iraq will dedicate its resources to peace and prosperity instead of to bombs and destruction.

Which is better: gridlock or one party controlling Congress and the White House?

Gridlock is better.

Look at the dictatorship we’ve paid taxes to for last seven and half years.

Look at what one party did to the United States, Afghanistan, and Iraq.

Party is not the right word.

It was an insane and insidious orgy of deceit.

RENDEZVOUS WITH UFOS AND ANOMALOUS PROPAGANDA

I took a break from my obsession with the topic of UFOs and aliens.

Except for watching the Larry King Show when he has visitors (no…not aliens) who talk about UFOs, I have not bothered to read or think that much about UFOs.

I’m going back to books that I’ve read and will share notes that I’ve taken from them.

THE HYNEK UFO REPORT was one of the last books that I read, and here I am quoting some of the more interesting things that Dr. Hynek wrote in that book.

U Thant: “You know, I am a Buddhist, and we believe in life elsewhere.”

Dr. J. Allen Hynek: “As an astronomer I do too, but the physical conditions, especially the length of time involved in journeys from outer space, seems insuperable.”

U Thant: “Ah, but what may seem like years to us, may be just a day or two to others.”

A careful study of the more extraordinary and unexplained UFO cases, not only from the Air Force files but from the more extensive files at the Center for UFO Studies leaves little doubt that an “intelligence” of some sort is operating. But what kind and where from?

Dr. J. Allen Hynek

It was against all known science that a craft could behave in the manner attributed to UFOs: amazing accelerations from a standing start, right-angled turns, rapid, noiseless disappearances after seemingly and openly defying gravity by hovering effortlessly above the ground.

Dr. J. Allen Hynek

Science had said that it was impossible and the Air Force theorem which was to cause so much trouble later on was born: “It can’t be, therefore it isn’t.”

Dr. J. Allen Hynek

No astronomical object appears as a metallic flying disc violently cavorting through the daytime sky.

Dr. J. Allen Hynek

No fireball on record, to this investigator’s knowledge, has ever been known to turn back on itself.

Dr. J. Allen Hynek

I would not spend one additional moment on the subject of UFOs if I didn’t seriously feel that the UFO phenomenon is real and that efforts to investigate and understand it, and eventually to solve it, could have a profound effect---perhaps even be the springboard to a revolution in man’s view of himself and his place in the universe.

Dr. J. Allen Hynek

Why “flying saucers”? Why not flying cubes or flying pyramids, or for that matter, why not flying pink elephants or even flying buildings, reported from a hundred different countries? Indeed, if UFO reports were entirely the result of excited imaginations, why not hundreds, possibly thousands, of totally and radically different types of reports as people of different cultures let their locally conditioned imaginations loose? But no. Instead, a continued flow of reports of fairly similar things which could be roughly classified into just a few categories.

Dr. J. Allen Hynek

UFOs of other categories seem to demonstrate intelligent action. Certainly this action does not appear to be random, but seems almost programmed or planned.

Dr. J. Allen Hynek

In the earliest days of the modern era of “flying saucers,” at the very inception of Project Sign---forerunner of Projects Grudge and Blue Book---there were two factions within the Air Force Intelligence system: those who believed that the mounting evidence was sufficient to take “flying saucers” very seriously---even to the belief that they were interplanetary spaceships---and those who believed that by no stretch of the imagination could the evidence be taken seriously. The latter group argued that with our advanced knowledge of the physical world around us, by the very nature of things these reports had to be nonsense. Rather quickly, probably because of the matter-of-fact nature of the military mind, the latter group won favor, and when Project Grudge replaced Sign in 1948, the “anti-UFO policy” was set for all time. In the end, the Air Force “got rid” of UFOs altogether with a most helpful assist from the Condon Committee at the University of Colorado.

Dr. J. Allen Hynek

In the fall of 1948, Project Sign received a report from Kyushu, Japan, describing the encounter of an F-61 aircraft with from two to six unidentified flying objects. Intelligence reports from Far East air forces indicated that the UFOs might have “carried radar warning equipment,” because the “object seemed cognizant of the whereabouts of the F-61 at all times.

Dr. J. Allen Hynek

Close Encounters of all types are hard to dismiss as misidentifications of familiar objects; it is hard to label a large object reportedly sighted just a few hundred feet away as Venus or a helicopter.

Dr. J. Allen Hynek

In all my years with Project Blue Book, I never ceased to be impressed with the phenomenon of mature adults with respectable positions in their communities reporting to the authorities (generally out of a sense of duty) the most incredible tales. In most of these cases there was no discernible motive for a deliberate hoax. Why then the report? Hallucination immediately suggests itself, but the witnesses generally have no previous record whatsoever of such an aberration. Furthermore, how can one exactly ascribe the same hallucination to two or more witnesses?

Dr. J. Allen Hynek

Why should it be more difficult for us to accept encounters with “creatures” than with “craft”? Probably because once we dare admit that beings alien to ourselves exist, we are forced to face our deepest fear of the unknown, along with our more basic and specific fears of competition and hostility. But, as in other types of UFO experiences, we cannot ignore the reports which do exist, for they are made by seemingly credible persons and are widespread.

Dr. J. Allen Hynek

Below are some subtitles in Dr. Hynek’s book THE HYNEK UFO REPORT.

They show Dr. Hynek’s sense of humor.

MORE SHOCK AND AWE

Dick Cheney: Hello. Yes, this is Dick. What do you have for me?

NASA: Well, Mr. Vice-President, I have some good news.

Dick Cheney: Quack! I can use some good news.

NASA: Sir, there IS life on Mars. We just haven’t told the public yet.

Dick Cheney: Life? As in bacterial life?

NASA: No sir, much bigger and much worse than bacteria.

Dick Cheney: Lawyers?

NASA: That’s close. We found Martians and they have Weapons of Mass Destruction.

Dick Cheney: QUACK! You might know that those damn things would end up on Mars.

NASA: Yes sir.

Dick Cheney: Alright. I’ll tell the Decider.

NASA: What do you plan to do next?

Dick Cheney: What do you think? We’re going to shock and awe the hell out of them! I won’t miss this time.

Q & A

How much does a candidate’s physical appearance matter to you?

As long as they have just one head and two eyes, the physical appearance is not the most important thing to me.
It’s what’s inside that counts.
But I will vote for the candidate whose body and mind are better than the other candidate’s.

What will the country’s sour mood mean for the election?

Voters will be buying more honey and molasses.

How can you tell if you’re becoming addicted to the Internet?

I haven’t left my house in years.

Everything I eat is delivered.
I don’t shave, bathe, or brush my teeth.
I never read books.
And I lie all the time.

Why isn’t Barack Obama doing better in the polls?

There are still 100 days of polling and politicking left.

Give the ticks and fleas time for the dogs to scratch.

Each candidate's tail...I mean each candidate’s poll numbers will wag up and down during the course of campaigning.

Slips and slides happen along the way.

I won't take polls seriously until the dogs have reached the finish line.

When it comes to Barack Obama, where are the Clintons?

After Hillary Clinton said that Barack Obama should be ashamed of himself, and Bill Clinton said that Obama was living on fantasy island, I believe that both Bill and Hill think privately, at least, that Senator Obama can go fly his own kite.

The Clintons don’t want to associate with the winner.

They want to be the winners.

Of course, if Bill’s wife is chosen to be Obama’s VP, Bill would be back in the White House (Not in the kitchen baking cookies), and Hillary would be waiting for her chance to become president.

When it comes to raising taxes, is John McCain flip-flopping?

Yep, he's flipped and flopped right into the pan of the very rich.

Every candidate will flip and flop if the flipping and flopping help fan the fires of their fortunes.

The flips and flops can discombobulate voters, but when it’s a big fish such as taxes, voters know which bait is being used, and aren’t so easily hooked.

Is going negative against Barack Obama a winning strategy for John McCain?

It’s a losing strategy.

To be so negative at one end of the magnet only increases the positive end of Obama’s campaign.

Voters want the important ideas and issues discussed, not whether Obama is popular or unpatriotic.

McCain is making himself look more and more ridiculous, more and more unworthy to be the most powerful leader on this planet.

In light of its many accomplishments, does Congress deserve a month-long vacation?

No.

Send them out into the fields and orchards, and get them to pick the fruit and vegetables.

Do some real work.

On the other hand…

Stay home---

Don’t come back!

The country can use your salaries to pay for building highways, bridges, and schools.

What does it mean for President Bush when a federal judge rules his people are not immune from congressional subpoenas?

It doesn’t mean cockle-doodle-do.

President Bush lied and got away with it.

President Bush broke laws and got away with it.

President Bush sent Americans over to Iraq to die based on his lies and he’s still getting away with it.

President Bush is laughing at us now, and he’ll still be laughing when he escapes, leaving us with trillions of dollars in debts.

President Bush will continue to laugh at us after he tortures his armadillos and barbecues them down at the Crawford ranch.

All of the other culprits in this administration will be long gone anyway.

The subpoenas are really quite meaningless at this point in time.

The Courts, the Congress, and the American people have let this man get away with murderous lies.

THE DRILLER AND THE DUELLIST

When it comes to oil John McCain wants to Drill.

Barack Obama wants to

Duel.

Both candidates are slinging spears and arrows between mud balls.

McCain even catapulted Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.

I should turn off the TV and wait for the debates, but I can’t help myself.

I’m as addicted to this political battle as I am to oil.

It would be fun, however, to watch John McCain and Barack Obama do the following:

1. Wrestle in mud.

2. Duel with pistols (using blanks).

3. Duel with swords (made of plastic).

4. Duel with light sabers.

5. Pin the tail on the donkey (and the elephant).

MARS

Marsha: Honey, what’s that noise?

Marty: The Americans are back.

Marsha: Why?

Marty: They’re probing our planet to find out if there’s any life up here.

Marsha: That’s all?

Marty: No, they also want our water.

Marsha: Why?

Marty: Because somebody called Sam-and-Ella is killing people on Earth.

Marsha: Well, I guess it won’t hurt if that’s all they want to do.

Marty: But it’s not. After their pre-emptive invasion they’re going to occupy us.

Marsha: What can we do?

Marty: Keep moving. Keep hiding.

Marsha: O.K. I’ll start packing.
