Israel is destroying Lebanon.
Israel is destroying Lebanon in order to destroy Hizbollah.
Civilians are dying.
Hundreds and hundreds of children and women.
And men.
This is war.
We say.
This is war.
This is what happens.
Israel says that it is Lebanon’s fault that civilians are dying, because Lebanon has allowed Hizbollah to remain in Lebanon.
It is true that Iran wants to destroy Israel.
It is true that Hizbollah wants to destroy Israel.
It is understandable why Israel wants to destroy Hizbollah.
Hizbollah is a creation of Iran.
(What about Palestine? There is a great silence when Palestine is mentioned.)
We say.
This is war.
It is tragic.
It is unfortunate.
But this is war.
The bombs keep falling.
It is tragic.
It is unfortunate.

WORDS WORDS WORDS
LOCATION: The East Room
11:27 A.M. EDT
DATE: JULY 25, 2006
SPEAKERS: President Bush and the Prime Minister Maliki
He's doing it again!
But what’s new, pussycat?
The Long War President said, “Coalition and Iraqi forces will secure individual neighborhoods, will ensure the existence of an Iraqi security presence in the neighborhoods, and gradually expand the security presence as Iraqi citizens help them root out those who instiCate violence.”
I wasn’t sure that the Decider had said insticate instead of instigate. But sure enough, I listened a second time and the Long War President did say INSTICATE.
And there were other zingers as well:
"People fear democracy if your vision is based upon kind of a totalitarian view of the world."
Whose vision? The reference is ambiguous. When I first heard Mr. Bush say these words, I was jolted. My immediate thought was that the reference, even if subliminal, was to Mr. Bush’s vision. The one he got from God telling him what to do.
"Conditions change inside a country, Tom. And the question is, are we going to be facile enough to change with -- will we be nimble enough; will we be able to deal with the circumstances on the ground?"
Facile? The word facile is out of place.
And nimble? The subject here is not gymnastics or aerobics.
The Decider needs to carry an electronic Thesaurus.
And start reading more.

HEAD ON: APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD
Imagination at work or
We bring good things to life?
Mottos and slogans.
American as apple pie.
The above two mottos are from General Electric.
I like the older G.E. motto: We bring good things to life.
Whenever I heard We bring good things to life, it made me think of Frankenstein, even though he (or it) wasn’t a good thing.
I am fond of slogans from the food industry:
Finger-lickin good.
Think Outside the Bun.
We love to see you smile.
Where’s the beef?
What is the longevity for these mottos and slogans?
Only time will tell.

ALL OPTIONS ARE ON THE TABLE
Ms Betty Williams was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 30 years ago, when she circulated a petition to end violence in Northern Ireland after witnessing British soldiers shoot dead an IRA member who was driving a car.
Campaigning on the rights of young people at the Earth Dialogues forum, being held in Brisbane, Ms Williams spoke passionately about the deaths of innocent children during wartime, particularly in the Middle East, and lambasted Mr. Bush:
"Right now, I would love to kill George Bush."
[From “Peace prize winner 'could kill' Bush” by Annabelle McDonald /July 25, 2006 /www.theaustralian.news.com]
The delivery of at least 100 GBU 28 bunker busters bombs containing depleted uranium warheads by the United States to Israel for use against targets in Lebanon will result in additional radioactive and chemical toxic contamination with consequent adverse health and environmental effects throughout the middle east.
[Dr. Doug Rokke, PhD., former Director, U.S. Army Depleted Uranium project/7-24-06]
The Deceptions and War Crimes committed under the authority and direction of George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Alberto Gonzalez, Donald Rumsfeld and Condoleeza Rice preclude America and the world from having any trust in their present or future course of actions and decisions.
Unfortunately.
Their self-conceived plans to invade Iraq were carried out by deceiving the American people and Congress.
The evidence is now indisputable.
Unfortunately.
I have just finished THE CASE FOR IMPEACHMENT: The Legal Argument for Removing President George W. Bush from Office by Dave Lindorff and Barbara Olshansky (THOMAS DUNNE BOOKS/St. Martin’s Press/May 2006).
The book calls for the impeachment of all of the above perpetrators and co-conspirators.
Cogent and precise facts are given.
Sad but true facts.
Unfortunately.
If the Long War President isn’t bombing Syria or Iran, censure and impeachment will come in November when the Democrats win back the House.
Fortunately.

Do you believe President Bush's actions justify impeachment? * 266025 responses
Yes, between the secret spying, the deceptions leading to war and more, there is plenty to justify putting him on trial.

No, like any president, he has made a few missteps, but nothing approaching "high crimes and misdemeanors."
4.4%
No, the man has done absolutely nothing wrong. Impeachment would just be a political lynching.

SCREW THE HOME PLANET---JUST LEAVE ME ALONE
"You've got a President who says global warming is a hoax, and across the Potomac river you've got a Pentagon preparing for climate wars. It's pretty scary when Bush starts to ignore his own government on this issue."
Rob Gueterbock of Greenpeace.
Although the Long War President doesn’t want to bother too much with safeguarding or saving this planet, he does want NASA to keep their eyes and machines on other
worlds :
From 2002 until this year, NASA’s mission statement (in its budget and planning documents) read: “To understand and protect our home planet; to explore the universe and search for life; to inspire the next generation of explorers ... as only NASA can.”
In February, the words “to understand and protect our home planet” were removed. In this year’s budget and planning documents, NASA'S mission is “to pioneer the future in space exploration, scientific discovery and aeronautics research.”
Of course, “scientific discovery and aeronautics research” can be translated as military development.
Dr. Hansen [who directs the Goddard Institute for Space Studies, a NASA office] said the change might reflect White House eagerness to shift the spotlight away from global warming.
“They’re making it clear that they have the authority to make this change, that the president sets the objectives for NASA, and that they prefer that NASA work on something that’s not causing them a problem,” he said.
Thus, the Decider continues to show how much he wants to forget about this planet’s health and Global Warming.
His philosophy is something like this: Let others who live after me worry about the planet’s health, just as others will have to clean up my mess in Iraq.
Yes, the earth’s denizens must wait for a more compassionate and rational leader to save their home planet.
In the meantime, George W. Bush will continue to munch his pretzels and rolls, spew out foul language, and look for those armadillos on his ranch.
Oh, and milk his camels!
Tomorrow can wait.
Today is all that matters.
Exploit other planets.
Leave me alone!

BIRTH PANGS IN THE MIDDLE EAST
According to General Wesley Clark--the Pentagon, by late 2001, was Planning to Attack Lebanon.
"[The] Five-year campaign plan [includes]... a total of seven countries, beginning with Iraq, then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Iran, Somalia and Sudan" (Pentagon official quoted by General Wesley Clark.
Bush has blocked those who attempted to bring a stop to Israel's bombing of residential neighborhoods and civilian infrastructure, and now Bush rushes more bombs for Israel to drop on Lebanon.
Bush's war is not on terror. Bush's war is on Muslim states not ruled by American puppets. [ US Complicit In Destruction Of Lebanon/ Paul Craig Roberts/7-23-06/rense.com]
Right now the Middle East war is taking our eyes and ears away from the Iraq travesty and tragedy.
It is almost August.
It’s only a few months away from the November election.
The Middle East war is not an October surprise, but it will have to do for now.
With the full cooperation and even encouragement of the President, Israel has been preparing a coup d'main against Arab commandos both in Lebanon and Gaza and has been planning, again with the full cooperation of the White House, to use these "terrorist attacks" (deliberately provoked) on them to move militarily into Syria and "completely crush" the government there which they view as working with Iran to infiltrate deadly, long range missiles into Lebanon to attack vital targets deep inside Israel.
There also has been the intention of Israel to involve the United States in a sneak attack on Tehran using tactical nuclear weapons. The President finds himself in a position wherein he completely sympathizes with Israel's determination to crush any kind of Arab activism in the Middle East because he feels that these same activists are also Iran sponsored and are responsible for the casualties in Iraq.
The idea under discussion, according to the extracts, is for this to happen just before the U.S. midterm elections in November, to give Bush and the Republicans a desperately needed boost in public opinion.
The vile rats that put America in Iraq are now more than willing to support Israel’s devastation of Lebanon.
Unfortunately.
Suthir Amalat, carrying her child in one arm as she bought water to take home for emergencies, said she was preparing for everything to worsen.
"We are angry at Hezbollah for starting this catastrophe, but even more angry at the Israelis for destroying all of Lebanon," she said. "And America, who we thought was our friend, clearly now supports the Israeli destruction of our country."

PROOF IN THE RICE PUDDING
Joseph Cirincione, an arms expert and the author of Deadly Arsenals: Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Threats, says "The neoconservatives are now hoping to use the Israeli-Lebanon conflict as the trigger to launch a U.S. war against Syria, Iran or both."
President Bush handed Secretary Rice scary pictures of mushrooms and clouds to show everybody.
Since she wants a lasting peace, Rice will give them a piece of what is really on her mind.
The U.S. and Israel want to kill these birds (Iran-Syria-Hizbullah-Hamas-North Korea) with one big stone.
The pictures should make those getting stoned to think twice about what they want to do.

BUSH WOOS AGAIN
Isolated in their evil, the neoconservatives are frantically and shrilly demanding that Bush join Israel in military attacks on Syria and Iran in order to “build democracy” and to clear the Middle East of any opposition to Israel’s unbridled self-interest. The crazed David Horowitz writes that “Israel is doing the work of the rest of the civilized world.”
Neoconservatives believe that the US and Israel can extirpate Islam with fire and sword and that the present opportunity to escalate the current conflict into generalized war in the Middle East must not be missed.
The Unfolding Horror Show
By PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS/7-20-06/counterpunch.com
"The Republicans are very good at coming up with phony issues. Stem-cell research is a phony issue. Flag-burning is a phony issue. Reading the Bible in school is a phony issue. The real issues are health care, ending the war… The real issue is also a free America.''
[Rev. Carl Fitchett, pastor of Mt. Moriah Temple Baptist Church in Philadelphia/7-20/06]
It’s election year.
Politicians of both parties scramble for every scrap and opportunity to pamper and powder their political ambitions.
The President finally decided (he is the Decider after all) to attend a NAACP Convention.
Although the Long War President says that polls aren’t important to him, his attendance at the NAACP gathering is not without its effect on polls, as negligible as it may be.
After many mistakes, fabrications and disasters during his administration, the Long War Decider-Prevaricator President will do anything to help maintain his imperial reign, and also to help the Republican minions hold on to their own seats of power.
Thus, he came to the NAACP with his heart and hand open to woo votes.
His speech to the NAACP (whoever wrote it) made sure that it pushed all of the right, obsequious buttons.
It is probable that his audience knew that they were being wooed, but were themselves polite and deferential to a U.S. President, even though for this president the U.S. Constitution is just a “goddamned piece of paper”.

WHAT A DISGRACE UNDER GOD
While the White House and Downing Street still refuse to use the phrase ‘civil war’ Iraqis in the centre of the country have no doubt what is happening. Baghdad mortuary alone received 1,595 bodies in June.
"Massacres Soar in Central Iraq: Maliki Government Discredited"
By PATRICK COCKBURN/July 19, 2006/counterpunch.com
Sweden evacuated 2,300 of its citizens the next day after bombing began in Lebanon.
Déjà vu Katrina: the Bush administration has taken one week.
But the Long War President, Mr. Compassionate Conservative, and the anti-minimum wage and greedy Congress, finally did decide that they would not charge Americans to pay for their tickets out of Lebanon.
What a disgrace.
The U.S. House of Representatives is now voting on a resolution (HR 2389) that would prevent federal judges from challenging the phrase “under God” and ruling that it is unconstitutional.
The U.S. House was also discussing an increase in the minimum wage.
The Long War Prevaricator (Decider) President still gets billions for his Iraq War (and Congress kisses his prevaricating backside), but shun an increase in the minimum wage of the citizens who pay for his horrendous war.
But if Republicans and this Long War President want to really pay attention to the voice of the people, and pledge allegiance to the United States of America (UNDER GOD!), then they should give their attention to withdrawing from the Iraq War, increase assistance to victims of the Katrina catastrophe, and intervene more actively for a ceasefire in the Middle East crisis.
Instead, Republicans devote their (highly paid) time to issues such as flag-burning, Gay marriage, the Pledge of Allegiance.
What a disgrace.

A NEW MUSHROOM CLOUD: KARL ROVE NEWT GINGRICH AND WORLD WAR III
Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it.
Adolph Hitler
KR: Hello. Newt Gingrich? This is ol’ Turd Blossom calling. Fine. How are you?
NG: Doing well. Hey, it looks like you escaped the knife with the Plame problem.
KR: Yeah. So far so good. But look out if the Republicans can’t keep the House in November.
And that’s why I’m calling.
NG: Really. What’s up?
KR: Well, Newt, I need your help.
NG: Help?
KR: Yes. With the November election, and then, the 2008 election.
NG: Sure. What can I do to help?
KR: Well, Newt, I know you’d like to be president in 2008, and I want to help you.
NG: Thank you. I’m flattered. Talk to me.
KR: Well, Newt, I need you to throw a little curve ball…sort of a time bomb…at the country.
NG: O.K. What kind of bomb?
KR: I’d like you to scare the hell out of the people so that they won’t elect the liberal Democratic sissies.
NG: O.K. What should I do?
KR: Well, it’s really what I’d like you to say.
NG: Say?
KR: Yeah. I want you to start saying that the current crisis in the Middle East is the beginning of World War III.
NG: Right. Isn’t it?
KR: Well, Newt, that’s not what’s important. What’s important is to make the American people think that it’s World War III. If we can make them believe this, they’ll worry less about Iraq.
NG: Right. O.K. I’ll step up to the plate and ring the World War III death knell.
KR: Thanks Newt. Keep ringing it. You’ll hear from me as soon as GW leaves…or gets impeached.

SH*T- EATING -AND SWAGGERING
I wasn’t offended when the Long War President said the word sh*t.
What was offensive was the way he was eating that roll (or whatever it was).
The Long War President even swaggers as he eats!
It was disgusting to watch his mouth open and close as he munched his roll (or whatever it was); and then he would pause in his munching to speak to Tony Blair; and then he got back to munching some more on his roll (or whatever it was).
Can you imagine what it looks like when the Long War President is munching pretzels and drinking beer?
Kind of makes you nostalgic to see papa throwing up!

BUSH SNOW AND ENGLISH
But if thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought.
George Orwell
In a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act.
George Orwell
Just like his prevaricating boss, Long War President George W. Bush, White House Press Secretary Tony Snow has some issues with the English language.
It must be an offshoot of the bird (i.e. word) flu virus.
I had to read the following sentence a couple of times:
"We think it's important that, in doing that, they try to limit as much as possible the so-called collateral damage, not only on civilians but also on human lives," Snow said.
Does Mr. Snow draw a distinction between human lives and civilians?
Snow's statement is the stupidest thing I have ever read (although Bush might have one more stupid somewhere.)
Snow made the statement in response to Bush's comment to Prime Minister Fuad Saniora that Israelis have a right to protect themselves.
Snow also shows a careless and cold regard for civilian deaths when he calls them "so-called collateral damage".
Mr. Snow, what would you call killing innocent civilians?
The president and Mr. Snow need to start taking Freshman English again.
[It now turns out that Tony Snow actually said facilities not civilians. Maybe only one of them needs to take Freshman English.]

BUSH SH*T
Will the poop of Bush be signed, sealed and delivered to the U.S. from the Group of Eight summit in Italy?
Bush's poop and piss are top secret MATTER.
The Long War President's feces were flown back to the U.S. from Vienna back in June.
Bush even had his own toilet and toilet paper brought to Vienna where he attended the U.S.-European Union (EU) Summit June 21.
One wonders what state secrets dwell within Bush's fecal matter.
But all of this is no surprise.
Bush has already denied access to all of the presidential papers belonging to his daddy, himself, and other presidents.
This really stinks!
But who gives a poop?
On November 1, 2001, President Bush issued an executive order entitled "Further Implementation of the Presidential Records Act." His order effectively overturned an act of Congress and a Supreme Court decision and could make it far more difficult for Americans to learn of government abuses. Jonathan Turley, a George Washington University law professor, declared that the executive order "effectively rewrote the Presidential Records Act, converting it from a measure guaranteeing public access to one that blocks it."

SNAKE OIL AND PHARMACEUTICALS
Some 21% of all medicines are prescribed to treat conditions for which they're not approved, and some 73% of these uses lack strong evidence supporting their use.
Reader's Digest/August 2006/Health IQ by DR. ROIZEN & DR. OZ
I know I have an obsession with conspiracies.
I have one more.
I was watching TV this morning and saw a river of Atripla gushing down a chute in some factory.
Millions and millions of big tablets for AIDS patients.
My first thought: AIDS was created to make Pharmaceutical Companies even richer.
This proposition seems so unlikely that I might believe it.
Atripla combines into one pill what three do separately.
That doesn't sound bad.
But will the cost go up or down?
I am amazed (but not really that surprised) when reports come out years later saying how the drugs we took are now giving us cancer and heart attacks etc.
There are no traveling medicine shows today, only endless TV commericials about endless kinds of wonder drugs.
It makes me wonder.
I wonder how many drugs are really bad for us, and how many are good for us.
Sure, these drugs relieve symptons of one ailment, but they then produce their own negative effects.
Take one and call me in the morning.

IMPEACH NOW
Should Dick Cheney and George W. Bush be impeached?
Why?
Why not?
This is not a partisan matter.
In fact, it is a BIPARTISAN matter of great importance.
For the good of the United States, and for the good of tomorrow’s children, this leadership which has misled its citizens and the world must be brought to justice.
Although I have not yet read THE CASE FOR IMPEACHMENT: The Legal Argument for Removing George W. Bush from Office by Dave Lindorff and Barbara Olshansky, I shall read it.
I expect my own opinion that the Long War President and all of his henchmen should be impeached will be bolstered.
It is time to act.
It is time for action.
This administration’s machinations and fabrications shall not be allowed to stand.
Below are a few salient points about impeachment.
“The process of congressional hearings that impeachment entails rips apart the lies and deceptions; the duplicities and deceit; the cover-ups and crimes of the officials being investigated. Indeed, the high crimes and misdemeanors that the impeached official is charged with become apparent during this process. Let us hope that those in the Bush administration that this book charges with said offenses will face such a fate.”
”In 1973 and 1974, as the Nixon administration circled its wagons, there was a fear that the fragile freedoms and structures defined in the US constitution would become history unless Richard Nixon was removed from office. It is Lindorff and Olshansky's contention that this is an even more likely--and frightening--possibility if George Bush is not impeached.”
“The complicity of the Congress and the courts proves that the attack on the Constitution is being waged from all three divisions of the US government. Impeaching Bush and Cheney would not end the assault, but it would strike a mighty blow. Like the Hydra of Herculean legend, the beast of despotism has but one essential head and, when that head is destroyed, the Hydra will be, too. The White House is that essential head.”

STRANGE VOICES
Rita Cosby.
What's up with her voice?
Rita sounds as if she has been underwater forever and now has a chronic cold.
Or is she permanently hoarse?
How do you describe the sounds which come out of her nasal and oral conduits?
Maybe I should not be so critical of her voice.
She possibly had an injury.
Or perhaps this has always been the sound of her voice.
Rosie Perez has a strange voice.
There's another actress (the name escapes me) whose nasal and twangy cackle is very annoying.
I've always been amused by Eddie Murphey's laugh, and I do pretty well at imitating it.
Hee-hee-hee-hee-hee.

ASSES AND BIN LADEN
“We’ve got a lot of *asses looking for bin Laden...no IFS, ANDS or BUTTS.”

The Long War President actually said *assets, but I couldn’t resist. Or maybe he didn’t. It’s the same old story.

BUSH AND BIN LADEN: DEAD OR ALIVE?
Former President George H.W. Bush traveled to Saudi Arabia on behalf of the privately owned Carlyle Group, the 11th largest defense contractor in the U.S. While there he met privately with the Saudi royal family and the bin Laden family. [Wall Street Journal, Sept. 27, 2001.]
National security agents confirmed that Bush ordered them to "back off" their investigations into the bin Ladens.
On Oct. 31 the French daily Le Figaro dropped a bombshell. While in a Dubai hospital receiving treatment for a chronic kidney infection last July [2001], Osama bin Laden met with a top CIA official -- presumably the chief of station. The meeting, held in bin Laden's private suite, took place at the American hospital in Dubai at a time when he was a wanted fugitive for the bombings of two U.S. embassies and last year's attack on the USS Cole. Bin Laden was eligible for execution according to a 2000 intelligence finding issued by President Bill Clinton before leaving office in January. Yet on July 14, 2001 he was allowed to leave Dubai on a private jet, and there were no Navy fighters waiting to force him down.
President Clinton had two nuclear submarines aimed at the Taliban, and he told them so. Clinton was poised to fire missiles at any location where our agents spotted bin Laden. Bush ordered those submarines to stand down.
The Long War President has cut and run from BIN LADEN.
George W. Bush is more concerned about finding armadillos on his Crawford ranch than he is about bringing Osama bin Laden to justice (a worn-out, hackneyed phrase).
So much for the Long War President’s Global War on Terror.
So much for all the bravado about smoking evil Osama from his cave…dead or alive!
The number one Terrorist has been removed from Bush's hit list.
Or maybe BIN LADEN was never on the list.
Remember when all of the BIN LADEN family members were quickly taken out of the United States when no other planes were permitted to fly!
Members of the BIN LADEN family (and other Saudis) were the only persons allowed to fly just a few days after September 11.
Was this the Bush family’s payback-favor to BIN LADEN & family?
But WHY?
What the hell is going on here?
As some old hippie might ask: Hey, man what’s happening? (Without drugs!)
The CIA has closed down a secret unit that for a decade had the mission of hunting Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and his top lieutenants, intelligence officials say.
The terrorist tracking unit, known inside the spy agency as "Alec station," was disbanded late last year [2005].
Michael Scheuer, a former senior CIA official who was the first head of the bin Laden unit, said he believed the move reflected a view within the agency that bin Laden is no longer the threat he once was. He said he believes that view is mistaken.

MISSILE ENVY
“If you’ve got nuclear weapons you get respect.”
Andrea Mitchell-MSNBC-July 5, 2006
"If we can develop this we have nothing to fear. Even the American Bastards won't be able to bother us. Whether we live or die, we must quickly develop the Hwasong 6." Kim Jong-il

PISSED OFF IRAQIS
"We know that dictators are quick to choose aggession, while free nations strive to resolve differences in peace."
George W. Bush
On Aug. 6, a CIA official brought the infamous "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S." memo to Crawford and read it out personally to the president. In response, he got nothing but a snide dismissal: "All right, you've covered your ass now."
After watching and listening to the Pre-Iraq War Intelligence Senate Democratic Policy Committee meeting on Monday June 26, 2006 [C-SPAN] the following can be concluded:
The unnecessary and tragic Iraq war (morass and debacle) was produced by a closed system of cherry-picked and self-serving data, lies, omissions and spurious information.
Dick Cheney, George W. Bush, Condoleeza Rice and Donald Rumsfeld (to name the key perpetrators) wanted to bomb and occupy Iraq even if they had to lie.
They lied.
They continue to lie to cover their you know what.
The war was pre-meditated murder.
This administration threw curve balls at the American people and Congress.
Bush and Blair agreed to go to war as early as April 2002.
Wonderful, isn’t it?
The American electorate is restive and becomes more pissed off day by day at what this duplicitous administration did.
But even more pissed off are the Iraqi people themselves.
Iraqis whose family members have been killed are now insurgents.
The pre-meditated Iraq war (and cover-up) is clearly justifiable grounds for censure and impeachment of George W. Bush and his administration.
The policy was already decided upon by Bush to make his pre-emptive attack and invasion of Iraq.
Intel was discounted, ignored and manipulated by Wolfowitz’s and Rumsfeld’s and Feith's Office of Special plans.
The main thing was to have their war; to deceive the Congress and American public; to have enough evidence (albeit false) to justify the pre-emptive war.
The low-profile and secret Wolfowitz/Rumsfeld/Feith Office of Special Plans was the basis of spurious scraps that were fed to Congress and the American people.
This false data superseded the data of the American Intelligence community.
In an interview with the Scottish Sunday Herald, former CIA officer Larry C. Johnson said the OSP was "dangerous for US national security and a threat to world peace. [The OSP] lied and manipulated intelligence to further its agenda of removing Saddam. It's a group of ideologues with pre-determined notions of truth and reality. They take bits of intelligence to support their agenda and ignore anything contrary. They should be eliminated." (Mackay, 2003)
"Senator Jay Rockefeller, senior Democrat on the [Senate] committee, said that Mr Feith's cell may even have undertaken 'unlawful' intelligence-gathering initiatives."
The OSP "deployed several extra-legal and unapproved task force missions" in Iraq both before and after the beginning of combat. The teams operated independently of other special forces operations, occasionally causing confusion on the battlefield. The teams appear to have had a political rather than military mission; specifically, to find Iraqi intelligence officers willing come up with evidence of WMD in Iraq whether or not such weapons actually existed:
"They come in the summer of 2003, bringing in Iraqis, interviewing them," [a source close to the UN Security Council] said. "Then they start talking about WMD and they say to [these Iraqi intelligence officers] that 'Our President is in trouble. He went to war saying there are WMD and there are no WMD. What can we do? Can you help us?'"[2]
