GAME 3

You see, you spend a good piece of your life gripping a baseball, and in the end it turns out that it was the other way around all the time.
Jim Bouton

Hitting is timing. Pitching is upsetting timing.
Warren Spahn

Game 3 of the '07 World Series is minutes away.
I woke up this morning feeling like heck.
I didn't take my Niacin, Cinammon or B-Complex pills last night.
I guess they do work.
But I've been dozing off and on, trying to kick this flu bug, and I've been thinking about pitchers and pitching.
Every pitcher knows how good he is and how good he is throwing.
He is the pilot of his team's 9-inning odyssey.
I used to play catch with one of my cousins.
My four cousins were all brothers... and "military brats" (what a pejorative description).
Colon eventually went to Notre Dame and played as a quarterback.

Even in those early 1960's you could see the power in Colon's arms.
I wasn't too bad, but I never threw as fast as he did.
What I enjoyed most about throwing a baseball was how I could control the spin, and throw curve balls and "drop balls" (I guess these are known as sliders).
Colon and I played catch just that one Colorado summer.
After we broke Grandma Pat's birdbath, we didn't play any more.
It was fun while it lasted.

Six innings of red hot pitching and smashing hits won Game 3 for Boston.
Were the baseball gods playing pranks on the religious Rockies?

2.4 trillion on wars projected over next decade

White House brushes off analysis of Iraq, Afghanistan fight as 'speculation'

MSNBC

6:36 p.m. ET Oct. 24, 2007

WASHINGTON - Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan could cost as much as $2.4 trillion through the next decade, according to a new analysis Wednesday that the White House brushed off as "speculation."

The analysis, by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, provides the most comprehensive and far-reaching estimate to date, taking into account costs previously not counted and assuming large number of forces would remain in the regions.

According to CBO, the U.S. has spent about $600 billion to date on both wars, including $39 billion in diplomatic operations and foreign aid.

If the U.S. cuts the number of troops deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan to 75,000 six years from now, it would cost the U.S. another $1 trillion for military and diplomatic operations and $705 billion in interest payments to pay for the wars through 2017.

The American discussion about Iran has lost all connection to reality. . . . Iran has an economy the size of Finland's. . . It has not invaded a country since the late 18th century. The United States has a GDP that is 68 times larger and defense expenditures that are 110 times greater. Israel and every Arab country (except Syria and Iraq) are allied against Iran. And yet we are to believe that Tehran is about to overturn the international system and replace it with an Islamo-fascist order? What planet are we on?

GWB: Dick, we're still in charge. I'm the Decider and you're the Shooter

DC: Right Boss.

GWB: We’ve got the country scared sh**less, and so we can do as we like.

DC: Right again Boss.

GWB: Like taking candy away from a baby. Every day is like Halloween.

Boo!

DC: 10-4.

GWB: Just a year or so to go. Let the next moron deal with Iraq.

I’m going to the ranch and catch up on my reading.

GAME 2

IT was moving slower than Game 1, much slower, but like a river, it flowed and then it ebbed, and then it moved a little faster.
It was a herky-jerky game, but suspenseful.
Then the flow got faster.
Innings required much less time.
Red Sox pitcher Chilling got the molasses moving, and kept the Rockies stuck with just one run. Chilling did his job.
Then he left the mound, said farewell to the fans, waving in three directions, walking solemnly and slowly to the dugout where he started his retirement.
Schilling was chilling, but Okijima was sizzling with his striking strike-outs.
The Fenway crowd was getting louder and louder, and even louder when Rockies
player Halliday,
who had just made a hit to get to first base, got thrown out three feet from the first base bag. I guess he fell asleep.
The Sox were up to bat again.
Bottom of the eighth.
Score was still Sox 2, Rockies 1.
Inning eight ended and nine began.
The Rockies had their final chance.
The gods needed to make up their minds about who should take home the cake tonight.
Players on both teams were praying.
Which team would have the ears of the deities?
It wasn't the Rockies.

GAME ONE

It wasn't a good first night for the Colorado Rockies.
It is debatable whether it was a good night for the Celestial Captain of the Rockies either.
The Big Guy in the Sky didn't die---he just left the first game of the 2007 World Series early.
What can the Rockies say after the Red Sox's winning bats beat their heads so hard that it will hurt for at least twenty-four long hours.
The busy bats of Boston had their own kind of homing radar.
It was not a boring game, but it wasn't a very exciting one.
Maybe the Supreme Being has something up his sleeve.
Tomorrow is another...
Game.

GOD AND BASEBALL

What God lacks is convictions- stability of character. He ought to be a Presbyterian or a Catholic or something- not try to be everything.
Mark Twain

The Supreme Being is a very busy man---
I mean---
God.
As we know---
He is everywhere.
He knows everything.
He has to.
He is God.
He is constantly being thanked by people for getting them what they have gotten in this world.
"I want to thank God for this award.
Without Him I would not have gotten it."

Even baseball players are now making their pitch to God.
The Colorado Rockies are now in the World Series.
Rockies Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Charlie Monfort said,
"I believe God sends signs, and we're seeing those."
That's a sign of a very fast pitch.
Here's another.
Let's call this one a curve or knuckle ball:
Rockies General Manager Dan O'Dowd said:
"You look at some of the moves we made and didn't make. You look at some of the games we're winning. Those aren't just a coincidence.
God has definitely had a hand in this."
Mark Twain wrote this:
Man proposes, but God blocks the game.

BUDDHA AND THE BABBLER

"What is your message to us?"

The Dalai Lama answered:

"Compassion."

"Peace starts within each one of us."

On the dangers of a pre-emptive strike on Iran

“The Iranian regime needs to know that if it stays on its present course, the international community is prepared to impose serious consequences.”

Vice President Dick Cheney

“World War III, as postulated by Dick Cheney, would be an elective war, and not a conflict of tragic necessity. This makes the crime even greater.”

One might hope that a little bit of Buddha rubbed off on the Babbling Bush as the Babbler sat next to the Dalai Lama.

Bush will probably need to wait for a new incarnation in order to become anything like a bodhisattva.

The do no harm beliefs of Buddha have never belonged to Bombastic Bush.

155 executions in Texas without one commutation is not

Buddha-like.

One million deaths (and counting) and billions and billions and billions of dollars (and counting) for freedom and democracy in Iraq is not

Buddha-like.

Thousands and thousands of deaths, head injuries and severed limbs of American soldiers is not

Buddha-like.

But Bush the Babbling Decider does not want to be like Buddha.

The Babbling Long War Decider President can't be a Pre-Emptive Bomber and Buddha at the same time.

Q & A

What does it say about the conflict in Iraq when the #2 injury among U.S. troops is mental illness?

This is going to sound insensitive and puerile, but this is a situation of father like son---or rather son like father.

Isn't George W. Bush somewhat mentally ill himself...or at least morally ill?

And aren't we all a little bit wacky at times?

But Bush's War has made our country and soldiers crazy.

The Decider is responsible for the fate of the bodies and minds of our soldiers.

He sure has screwed both up.

Mitt Romney calls the U.N. an "extraordinary failure" while Bill Richardson says it's "necessary and important." Which is it and why?

It is a failure because George W. Bush kicked inspectors out of Iraq (when they were doing an effective job) so that the Decider could begin his horrible war.

The U.N is still important and necessary if nations would put away their war toys and their greed, and help the U.N. do its job.

The NeoCons (like John Bolton) and others have deserted the United Nations.

It has not deserted them.

It's the oil stupid.

NOT AN ICY WHIMPER BUT A FIERY BANG

International polls show that the rest of the world regard the US and Israel as the greatest dangers to world peace. Americans claim that they are fighting wars against terrorism, but it is US and Israeli terrorism that worries everyone else. The rest of the world knows that the wars are about US and Israeli hegemony and that the US and Israel are prepared to engage in whatever acts of terror are necessary to achieve hegemony.
Paul Craig Roberts

It has been a very busy week at my high school where I teach, and so I haven't had too much time to read about (let alone contemplate) the news.
I haven't had time to ponder how the U.S.A. is getting its guns loaded and cocked---all primed and pretty---for its next war.
The war rhetoric is heating up.
George W. Bush wants to leave the Oval Office trailing flames of glory.
The Democrats and Republicans---and all but a couple of the presidential candidates---are endorsing bombing Iran.
Here
"we" go again.
But this time our going may get us
gone.
George W. Bush wants to be recorded on radioactive computer chips as the leader who tried to stop World War III by starting World War III.
The Decider's terrible grins are tanned and tenacious; his warnings are a preamble for more Shock-and-Awe Pre-Emptive War.
He is confident.
He acts comfortable as he once again gives clamorous and cocky warnings.
I know I'm not supposed to care or be surprised, and everyone tells me
"There's nothing that you can do."
Historical Inevitablility?
Biblical Revelation?
Pipe drippings and sniffing pipes?
We (and they) are now so inured to all of the badness that we do not believe that goodness can prevail.
The towel has been thrown in and our arms are in the last throes of their shruggings.
But the planet (at least its humans) still needs to be saved from destroying itself.
Dr. Strange
Loves are
Well and alive.

BUT...
Jesus tried to tell us…
Gandhi tried to tell us…
John Lennon tried to tell us…
Martin Luther King tried to tell us...
All four died trying to tell us
To bring peace into
This warring world.
This was well before
IslamoFascism...
This was before long before
9-11’s Crash!
This was long before
Petroleum's Cash!
This was all before
Bush's Balderdash!
Pray for Peace
But expect
MORE
WAR!
MORE
WAR!
MORE
WAR!

WHERE HAVE ALL THE FLOWERS GONE?
WHEN WILL THEY EVER LEARN?

STRIPPING AT THE AIRPORT

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has begun using a new kind of x-ray to search passengers for possible weapons. The radiation-free x-ray, called a "millimeter wave," scans a person's entire body. In the process, it creates a blush-inducingly graphic image of the person being scanned. The TSA blurs the face in scans, and only allows a remote screener to see the final scan.

The millimeter wave is just one of a few kinds of advanced technology (AT) x-rays being tested by the TSA.

AS: Do you want to be patted-down or scanned?

Man: What takes less time?

AS: The scan.

Man: O.K. I'll take the scan.

AS: Mam, do you want a scan or pat-down?

Woman: Will my body show up on your screen?

AS: Yes.

Woman: Everything?

AS: Yes.

Woman: I think I'll take the bus.

BUSH BUT NO BELL

Aide: Mr. President, Al Gore has just been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
GWB: Well, if there's no bell, why does he get an award?
Aide: Sir, Nobel is one word.
GWB: I knew it.
Gore got an award for just one word.
Aide: Sir, this award is because of his efforts to tell the world about global warming.
GWB: I can do that.
I've been tellin' the world about evil terrorists, haven't I?
Aide: Yes sir.
GWB: How can I get me one of these no bell awards?
Aide: You have to do something nobel, like stop making illegal and immoral pre-emptive wars.
GWB: I'll let the next president do that.
God's been tellin' me to spread some more democracy.
Aide: Yes sir.

THE NOBEL PRIZE FOR LITERATURE

Doris Lessing in a publicity photo for "The Golden Notebook" (1962).

I am embarrassed and dumbfounded that I have not read a single book by Doris Lessing, this year's winner for the Nobel Prize in Literature.
I was thinking the other day that Bob Dylan should be added to that nobel pantheon of great writers.
Writers such as Gore Vidal and Norman Mailer might not make it before their earthly exits.
I was appalled that Henry Miller never received the Nobel Prize.
I read his books and Thomas Wolfe's or John Steinbeck's on the same day, and would be equally awed by each.
There are many other Nobel Prize winners who I haven't read.
I'll begin today with Doris Lessing.

LOST FOUND OR GIVEN AWAY

LOST

What have we lost and what have we found?

Which do we remember the most?

I left my wallet in a phone booth in Boston and ten seconds later ran back and got it.

I lost a fountain pen with a nib made of 14-carat gold.

My dad gave me a ring that was made from a fifty-cent piece.

It was his pay for doing eight hours of carpentry work.

The ring was too loose on my finger and came off without my awareness.

I really regret losing that ring.

I recently lost my red vest-jacket with a 100% wool cap inside one of its zippered pockets.

FOUND

I haven't found too many things.

I found a ten-dollar bill in the mud (while it was still raining).

A five-dollar bill came out of a book of mine, and fluttered into my lap like manna from the heavens.

I forgot that I had stuck it inside this book.

I put bills inside my books to flatten the bills and make them look crisp and new, saving them for a rainy (and broke) day.

GIVEN AWAY

There are some things that are not exactly lost, but it feels as though we have lost them because we have given them away---of our own free will---when someone else needed them more than we did.

One night I was returning to my Bohemian apartment on Pearl Street in Boulder.

I was probably coming back from some foreign art film.

The University of Colorado showed a lot of these films for just one dollar and I rarely missed any of them.

I was outside the door that opened up to a long flight of stairs to my apartment.

I couldn’t open the door because a tall white boy was blocking my way and punching this black boy.

The black boy had his coat wrapped half-way down his arms, and he was straight-jacketed, unable to move his arms and defend himself.

The white kid was doing a lot of pummeling in a dirty and unfair fight.

Instead of just pushing one of them aside, I hit the white boy on the hard part of his head with my right fist.

It did the trick.

They stopped fighting, but my middle finger hurt like hell.

I don’t think I broke it, but for years that particular digit was always in pain, and especially when the cold weather arrived.

Anyway, the black boy just happened to be staying in my apartment (one of my roommates had taken pity on him and invited him to crash).

The next thing I know I’m walking up the stairs to my apartment behind him who I had just rescued.

His name was Drummond and his pants began falling down.

This was not a pleasant sight at all.

I asked him, “Where’s your belt?”

He said, “I don’t know.”

I quickly took off my belt and gave it to him.

“Here. You can have mine,” I said.

“My pants are a little tight, and I don’t need this belt.”

Well, before I knew what I had done, I had given away one of my prized possessions (Actually, it was the only one I had at the time.)

The buckle had been made by a friend of mine.

It was in the shape of the OM symbol (in Sanskrit letters) and was made from bronze.

I felt as though I had lost something even though I had given it away.

Que sera sera.

SCRAPS OF 9-11 CONSPIRACY THEORIES STILL BLOWING IN THE WIND

*

And I was sitting outside the classroom waiting to go in, and I saw an airplane hit the tower – the TV was obviously on, and I use to fly myself, and I said, "There's one terrible pilot." And I said, "It must have been a horrible accident."
G. W. Bush
President Bush's brother Marvin was a principal at Securacom,
the agency in charge of security at the World Trade Center,
Dulles Airport, and United Airlines.
A large number of stock shares in United Airlines
had changed hands before the attack,
which shows that certain segments of big business
knew to expect the attacks.
How is it possible to have a training
exercise about planes hitting the WTC and then actually have planes
hit the WTC? This kind of thing just does not happen unless it’s
pre-planned. What reason would there be to have this type of exercise
on that morning, I’ll tell you if you are placing fake planes all
over the north American aerospace grid then you have no way of
knowing which planes are real and which are fake. Then to thicken the
plot you put a civilian in charge of NORAD so that the military does
not have the power to initiate the order for jets to be scrambled to
intercept. If the military would have still commanded power over NORAD
they would have scrambled jets because they would have simply
followed the procedures that had been in place for this type of
situation for years and years and scrambled jets.
I was standing in the SCIF (Secure Compartmented Information
Facility), which is basically this underground bunker command post for
USCENTCOM, when the first plane hit. We were watching the fly patterns
of all the planes on the aerospace grid. This contained not only all
commercial flights at the time, but all military flights, and fake
enemy planes that were supposedly put on there for the exercise. Many
of the planes sent to intercept the fake blips were scrambled from
Andrews which is an air defense AFB for the East Coast. They were sent
across the
US and left very few planes to defend the capital. After
the first plane hit the tower we were all in disbelief. After the
initial shock was over, our questions were what are the odds this
could happen for real, during a training exercise that’s covering the
same scenario? We were all at wits end. Then to top all of this off,
Cheney gave NORAD the order to stand down scrambling jets to
intercept. A few moments later tower 2 was hit. Only after the
Pentagon was hit, did he give the orders to scramble the jets to
intercept the plane bound for the White House.
It was announced by President
Bush that Dick Cheney would be heading up operations over NORAD our
North American Aerospace Defense Command. Along with many of my peers,
we were shocked. Over the years, if you research NORAD, it has always
been under the command of a Military officer. It was done this way
because the defense of this country has always been in the hands of
such. Prior to the months before 9-11 this was all of the sudden
changed. Like I said, if you research NORAD and the command structure
you will find that it was imposed long ago that the military should be
in control of the order to scramble planes in the defense of American
air space. For some strange reason, Bush changed this and gave that
power to a civilian person on his Staff team. Yes, I know, very
interesting.

Bush Saw The FIRST Plane Hit The WTC On TV?

Bush Reveals TOTAL 9.11 Complicity – Says Saw Film of FIRST Attack on WTC:
THERE WAS NO SUCH BROADCAST!!

** Comments show complicit gov't elements had OWN cameras in place to film OWN attack!!!

He simply couldn't keep track of all the 9.11 lies, in the context and according to the time frame in which the public became aware of events on September 11.
What would you think, if you KNEW that someone – never mind who exactly for the moment – had been able to watch – never mind how or where for the moment – videotaped/filmed footage depicting the FIRST jet slamming into the World Trade Center on 9.11, WITHIN minutes of the actual OCCURRENCE of the event?
As one of the few people on Earth who could have SOMEHOW or other seen this footage, which was OBVIOUSLY filmed by parties who KNEW BEFOREHAND the event was "scheduled" to occur, it's a certainty that this person who viewed the film only minutes afterward was COMPLICIT in the horrendous crime that was committed.
What if that person who saw that filmed footage was G.W. Bush?
In the course of comments made in public in Florida on December 4, G.W. Bush revealed that he watched filmed/taped footage of the FIRST jet that crashed into the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11.
No, that's NOT a typo.
Bush has stated as CLEAR AS DAY that around 9 AM on September 11 he watched the FIRST "hijacked" jet slam into the World Trade Center towers on a television set.
There was – OBVIOUSLY – NO such TELEVISED coverage of the first plane to crash into the WTC on 9.11.
But there is surely NO chance that even an idiot of bush's stature could FAIL9 AM – just BEFOREPUBLICLY apprised of by Andrew Card DURING the time he was (trying to) read about rabbits. to distinguish between the first WTC attack around bush had begun (trying) to read about rabbits to Florida schoolkids – and the second one, which bush was
Nope: Even bush himself clearly distinguished between the TIME of the two attacks, when he made the STAGGERINGLY revealing comment about having seen the FIRST attack on TELEVISION.
He therefore DID and DOES fully understand that he had watched the FIRSTBEFORE he began reading. attack on the Trade Center
But bush, OBVIOUSLY, COULD NOT POSSIBLY have watched the event by means of any standard televised news source.

There is only ONE EXPLANATION for this.

Bush – TOTALLY complicit in the horrific events that were unfolding that morning – HAD TO HAVE BEEN watching the perpetrators' OWN VIDEO FEED of the extraordinary treachery which THEY THEMSELVES were unleashing on New York City! This MUST have been transmitted from the perpetrators' OWN VIDEO CAMERAS in place near the World Trade Center.

There is NO other explanation!

And bush has now INADVERTENTLY ADMITTED IT!!!

DREAMS GHOSTS AND UFOS

So comes to us at times, from the unknown
And inaccessible solitudes of being,
The rushing of the sea-tides of the soul;
And inspirations, that we deem our own,
Are some divine foreshadowing and foreseeing
Of things beyond our reason or control.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I looked out the window and saw this white light. It was zigzagging around. I went up to the pilot and said, "Have you ever seen anything like that?" He was shocked and he said, "Nope." And I said to him: "Let's follow it!" We followed it for several minutes. It was a bright white light. We followed it to Bakersfield, and all of a sudden to our utter amazement it went straight up into the heavens. When I got off the plane I told Nancy all about it.
President Ronald Reagan

GHOSTS
I don't have any superstitions (that I am aware of).
I am not a church-going or religious person, but I am a baptized and confirmed Catholic.
I was turned off to religion (or at least to the Catholic Church) when I heard money being counted during Mass.
As that noisy machine clinked and clanked, I started to like church and religion less and less.
This is somewhat off-topic:
My mom went to a Catholic high school, and almost didn't receive her diploma.
One more time caught smoking (cigarettes) in the bathroom...and no diploma!
She would have to get permission (and forgiveness) from the archbishop.
I think Sister Mary told her that.
I have never seen ghosts.
Just Caspar the friendly ghost.
(Sorry about that.)
I have had other people tell me that they have seen ghosts.
One teacher at the high school where I teach told me that faces move by him in his house when he's watching TV or just sitting.
I asked him if it was an old house.
He said that it is.
I don't laugh at people who tell their ghost stories.
I also don't laugh at persons with their stories about UFOS or dreams.

DREAMS
I’ve always liked the title of a story by Delmore Schwartz called “In Dreams Begin Responsibilities”.
I recently bought a collection of Schwartz’s stories and poems, and read his short story again.
When I read it the very first time, I think I might have been in 10th grade.
It had an impact on me.
But I think that it’s the title that I liked the most. Here is some information on Delmore Schwartz and this story.
(Everyone should read Schwartz…especially his poetry!)

***

[In 1962, Schwartz began teaching Creative Writing at Syracuse University. One of his students was future singer-songwriter Lou Reed, who dedicated several songs to his mentor (most notably "European Son"). Schwartz reportedly told Reed at one point, "You can write—and if you ever sell out and there's a Heaven from which you can be haunted, I'll haunt you," and Reed never forgot. He attended Schwartz's funeral in 1966, and years later in his song "My House," Reed tells a story of a ghost in his new home who spells out D-E-L-M-O-R-E on an Ouija board, and who doesn't spook him, but inspires him instead.]
[The expression "In Dreams Begin Responsibilities" is derived from the Irish poet William Butler Yeats' 1914 volume of poems Responsibilities which uses a variation of the phrase as an epigram. Yeats attributes the saying merely to an "Old Play." Variations of this saying show up in unexpected places (e.g. the movie Deep Cover [1]).]

***

Dreams can be Powerful, Real, Unreal, Upsetting, Beautiful, and Strange.
Although I don’t believe in ghosts, I am not saying that they don’t exist.
My gut tells me that there are angels.
Or guardians of some kind.
I just don’t know.
I am a big skeptic at heart, though friends think that I believe in any wild-eyed and weird conspiracy theory.
I was majoring in the sciences at the university---until the bug of poetry and philosophy bit me hard---and I cultivated a critical mind.
My beliefs are not as liberal as my conservative friends think.
Can dreams be presages and harbingers of what will be?
Can the mind see into the future or communicate with other minds?
Maybe.

UFOS
I’ve read dozens of books about UFOS.
I still don’t know what they are.
I once was told something very intriguing by a very reliable source.
This individual worked at a facility that required a Q-Level government clearance.
He said,
“M…our top physicist showed me pictures of a disc that was under canvas.
It’s being taken to Wright Patterson Air Force base. He’s going to try to figure out how to pierce the metal of this disc.”
“You’re kidding”, I said.
“No. I’m not kidding.”
Another time this source told me that a tech who worked at this facility went to Area 51.
She was transported in a bus with opaque windows.
“She saw them”, he said.
“Saw what?” I asked.
“Discs.”
One clear night a friend and I were sitting on the roof of my apartment building in Boulder, Colorado.
I was looking at the western sky.
A “light” suddenly sped across the horizon above Boulder’s Front Range Mountains.
The “light” moved fast.
I thought, “That’s a fast jet.”
But it wasn’t a jet.
It was moving way too fast.
Then…
The “light” stopped in its tracks, and went back in the opposite direction, still moving on the same straight line.
Then…
IT DISAPPEARED AS A POINT OF LIGHT!
Like when a TV goes off and leaves that last point of light.

READING BETWEEN THE LINES

President Bush Discusses the Economy and Protecting Americans From Terrorism
The Oval Office
October 5, 2007

THE PRESIDENT:

I want to thank members of my economic team for coming in the Oval Office this morning (I'll let grammarians argue whether I should have used the preposition into instead of in...the preposition in conveys an entirely different meaning, I know) to bring some good news here for America's families and America's working people.

You know, I am really pleased with the economic news, but I don't take good news for granted.
(I didn't take the good news for granted when I was selected by the Supreme Court to be your president, or when I got my diploma at Yale.)

I understand people are worried about their mortgage payments, or concerned about sending their child to college.
(But that's life in the big city.)

I know that people are concerned whether or not they're going to have enough money to meet their needs.
(But that's life in the big city.)

And so my call to the United States Congress is, keep taxes low.
(And I'll continue to keep expenses and borrowing high.)

If you want this economy continue to grow, and if you want to reinforce the fact that we've got -- entrepreneurship is strong and people are working, don't raise taxes.
(I'll let grammarians argue why, as your president, I use so many fragments when I speak.)

And I'm looking forward to working with the Congress to set priorities on how we spend the people's money, but I also am going to make it very clear to people in Congress that we're not going to raise their taxes on the working people.
(Just keep spending the taxes of the working people like there's no tomorrow.)

And so I'm real pleased. I thank you all for coming in to bring this good news to me. It's -- this good news is a real tribute to the hardworking Americans, the people out there working hard to put food on the table.
(Instead of on the floor.)

I want to say something else. There's been a lot of talk in the newspapers and on TV about a program that I put in motion to detain and question terrorists and extremists. I have put this program in place for a reason (Although I have very little myself), and that is to better protect the American people. And when we find somebody who may have information regarding an -- a potential attack on America, you bet we're going to detain them, and you bet we're going to question them (and you bet we're going to cause some pain to extract what's inside them!) -- because the American people expect us to find out information -- actionable intelligence so we can help protect them. That's our job.

Secondly, this government does not torture people. You know, we stick to U.S. law and our international obligations.
(AFX News Limited:
US acknowledges torture at Guantanamo; in Iraq, Afghanistan - UN

GENEVA (AFX) - Washington has, for the first time, acknowledged to the United Nations that prisoners have been tortured at US detention centres in Guantanamo Bay, as well as Afghanistan and Iraq, a UN source said.)

Thirdly, there are highly trained professionals questioning these extremists and terrorists. In other words, we got (I know...bad English again) professionals who are trained in this kind of work to get information that will protect the American people. And by the way, we have gotten information from these high-value detainees that have helped protect you.
(Don't ask me to tell you what information. That's my secret.)

THE EXECUTIONER

George W. Bush ordered the killing of the first woman in Texas since the 1860's.
After ignoring calls from religious leaders such as Pat Robertson,
Bush went ahead with the execution on schedule.
In the summer of '99 after announcing his bid for the presidency, Bush openly
mocks Karla's pleas for clemency in an interview he does with Talk magazine.
" `Please,' Bush whimpers, his lips pursed in mock desperation, `don't kill me.' "

It is no surprise that George W. Bush vetoed funding for the health care of 9,000,000 of America's children.
This Long War President demonstrated the penchant of his paucity for mercy when he ignored the pleas for commutation of
Texecutions of 155 persons.
Now it is America's children who the Deceitful Decider is "EXECUTING"!
BUT...
According to a Washington Post-ABC News poll released this week, 72 percent of Americans supported the bill Bush vetoed.
The program Congress voted to expand provides health insurance for children who fall into a perilous gap: Their families make too much money to qualify for Medicaid but don't make enough to afford health insurance. The cost of covering an additional 4 million children was estimated at around $35 billion over five years. That's a lot of money. But in the context of a $13 trillion economy -- and set against Bush's history of devil-may-care, "buy the house another round" spending -- it's chump change.

American children lose.
America loses.
Bush is a loser.
