"While almost no one disputes Iran’s nuclear ambitions, there is intense debate over how soon it could get the bomb, and what to do about that. Robert Gallucci, a former government expert on nonproliferation who is now the dean of the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown, told me, “Based on what I know, Iran could be eight to ten years away” from developing a deliverable nuclear weapon. Gallucci added, “If they had a covert nuclear program and we could prove it, and we could not stop it by negotiation, diplomacy, or the threat of sanctions, I’d be in favor of taking it out. But if you do it”—bomb Iran—“without being able to show there’s a secret program, you’re in trouble.”
“This is much more than a nuclear issue,” one high-ranking diplomat told me in Vienna. “That’s just a rallying point, and there is still time to fix it. But the Administration believes it cannot be fixed unless they control the hearts and minds of Iran. The real issue is who is going to control the Middle East and its oil in the next ten years.”
A senior Pentagon adviser on the war on terror expressed a similar view. “This White House believes that the only way to solve the problem is to change the power structure in Iran, and that means war,” he said. The danger, he said, was that “it also reinforces the belief inside Iran that the only way to defend the country is to have a nuclear capability.” A military conflict that destabilized the region could also increase the risk of terror: “Hezbollah comes into play,” the adviser said, referring to the terror group that is considered one of the world’s most successful, and which is now a Lebanese political party with strong ties to Iran. “And here comes Al Qaeda.”
One former defense official, who still deals with sensitive issues for the Bush Administration, told me that the military planning was premised on a belief that “a sustained bombing campaign in Iran will humiliate the religious leadership and lead the public to rise up and overthrow the government.” He added, “I was shocked when I heard it, and asked myself, ‘What are they smoking?’ ”
THE IRAN PLANS
Would President Bush go to war to stop Tehran from getting the bomb?

The last day!
The day of liberation!
When George W. Bush is finished!
Let us hope that America is not at war with Iran...Syria...or North Korea!
It is two years and many days to go.
The president who lied.
The president who sent soldiers to die in Iraq based on his indifference to the truth.
Why would George W. Bush drop nukes on Iran?
Because Dick told him it would be the best thing to do?
Or is Bush’s God telling him what to do again?
Is Iran going to get nuked so that a want-to-be dictator (Not Ahmadinejad!) can exit in a glorious ball of fire?
Is it so that a failed president can put his one last hurrah in the history books?
“He wanted to spread freedom and democracy, but he instead produced World War III.”
For Long War President Bush, an infamous legacy is better than no legacy at all.
WE MUST STOP BUSH FROM NUKING IRAN!

“We're not going to be intimidated by thugs and assassins,” Bush said. “We will achieve victory in Iraq. And by achieving victory in Iraq, we will make it more secure for a generation of Americans. They hope that we lose our nerve. We will not lose our nerve.”

Situation in Iraq could not be worse
By PATRICK COCKBURN

BAGHDAD, Iraq --
I have been covering the war in Iraq ever since it began three years ago and I have never seen the situation so grim. More than a week ago, I was in the northern city of Mosul, protected by 3,000 Kurdish soldiers, but even so it was considered too dangerous to send out patrols in daytime. It is safer at night because of a curfew.

I was in Lebanon at the start of the civil war in 1975. Baghdad today resembles Beirut then.
Bush and Blair have for the past three years continually understated the gravity of what is taking place. It has been frustrating as a journalist to hear them claim that much of Iraq is peaceful when we could not prove them wrong without being killed or kidnapped. The capture of Saddam in 2003, the handover of sovereignty in 2004, the elections and new constitution in 2005 have all been oversold to the outside world as signs of progress.
Three years ago, when Saddam's statue was toppled, Iraqis were promised their lives would get better. Instead Iraq has become the most dangerous place in the world.

ZOO SPECTACLES
"Also, like other mammals in the order carnivora, the male bears have a special bony structure in their penis called a "baculum". This structure serves to stimulate the female into ovulating, as well as prolonging copulation by widening to lock the two mating bears in a copulatiry "tie". This tie may last for 10 - 30 minutes." (www.lioncrusher.com)
The family went to the zoo on Sunday.
It was warm and the animals were taking it easy.
Then...WHAT THE HELL is that?
It looked like a taut, thick hose swinging beneath the animal it belonged to.
I asked my daughter what animal it was.
She said, "Oso".
I thought the animal looked more like a big anteater because of its sharp snout (and I'm not talking about the part that had wowed us!)
Well, my daughter was right. It was a bear.
Tremarctos ornatus.
Spectacled bear.
Indeed.
What a spectacle he made while we were walking by him.
I continued to stare as I walked backwards.
The spectacle had disappeared.
Where had it gone?
Why had it come out? (I thought to myself, "He's all alone. He must have been aroused by something. Or had he been peeing?")
You never know what you’ll see at the zoo.
Keep your eyes open for unexpected spectacles!

ODE ON WAR
Let Sir Bush
Make a Sign
Of the Cross
For his War that
Is a Double-cross!
Let that big smiling Dick
Inspect his oil-stick!
Get Rumsfeld to go to war
With his crooked arms swinging across
Bloody Radioactive Grass!
Make certain that
Miss Condi Rice
Knows a mushroom
Cloud from her ass!
"On Monday, former Secretary of State Colin Powell told me that he and his department's top experts never believed that Iraq posed an imminent nuclear threat, but that the President followed the misleading advice of Vice President Dick Cheney and the CIA in making the claim. Now he tells us."
"The harsh truth is that this President cherry-picked the intelligence data in making his case for invading Iraq and deliberately kept the public in the dark as to the countervailing analysis at the highest level of the intelligence community. While the President and his top Cabinet officials were fear-mongering with stark images of a "mushroom cloud" over American cities, the leading experts on nuclear weaponry at the Department of Energy (the agency in charge of the US nuclear-weapons program) and the State Department thought the claim of a near-term Iraqi nuclear threat was absurd." WILD SPECULATION
"As far back as September 2004, Israel announced that it had purchased 500 1-ton bunker-busters from the United States that can destroy 6-foot-thick concrete walls."
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad singing:
Nah-nah...
Nah-nah...
Nah-nah...
NAH!
Iran has made enriched uranium fuel...
For our peaceful nu-cle-ar re-ac-tors!
Allah is on our side!
We are on the side of Allah!
Allahu akbar!
Come on Bush...
Who’s your daddy?
Go ahead...
Make my day...
Bring it on...
Smoke me out...
Dead or Alive...

Drop your B61-11’s…
Give me a bloody nose and I’ll give you one too!
You want Armageddon, do you?
Then so do I...

ROCK ON GERIATRIC MINSTRELS
I remember the Grateful Dead concert I went to back in the early seventies.
It was held at the old stadium in Boulder, Colorado.
The Dead threw out baggies of pot.
This was just before it started to rain.
The band then sang a song (I forget which one) that mentioned the sun and rain.
I didn't pay much attention to the stage or the musicians.
I just listened to the songs.
I was thinking about this concert (one of just a few I have ever attended) when I pictured in my mind Bob Dylan and the aging members of The Rolling Stones.
They're still touring...wheelchairs and all!
I was going to take my wife to the Bob Dylan/Merle Haggard concert here in El Paso.
Price: $131.00!
I'll buy some more of his CDs instead.
I'm a big fan of Dylan's lyrics.
His voice of many colors.
I've gone to see him twice.
Indoors and outdoors.
Wearing my shades and not wearing them. I even brought him a rose in a vase with a card.
Years later I was stunned when I saw the cover of SHOT OF LOVE with Bob leaning over and smelling a rose.
I thought, "There's my rose!"
Of course, that was wishful thinking.
But I still feel good when I see that photograph.
One morning I woke up in Rocky Mountain National Park. I was "attending" one of the Rainbow Family's Great Peace Gatherings.
I woke up when a dog passing by licked my face.
Then a fellow a few feet away said “Good morning. What's your name?"
"Monty”, I told him.
"That's my name too. I used to cook for Bob Dylan."
Small world.
Bob and Mick are now grandpas.
And I hope they’re still playing when they're 85.
That will be some sight to see.
Rock on, boys!

UNIVERSAL BRAINMATE
I had my cell phone for a year.
It was one of those binding contracts with a penalty.
It was a big cell phone.
It was hard to keep the battery charged.
I don't have a cell phone now.
I don't miss the cell phone.
It doesn't miss me.
The company misses my money.
When I am at my school I see almost every person with a cell phone held to their head.
When I go shopping I see amost every person with a cell phone stuck to their head.
When I am driving I see...
Well, you get the picture.
If these cell phones do cause tumors, then gazillions of tumor doctors will be needed.
Remember those stories about how people used to have to wait weeks and months for their letters and calls to arrive.
The cell phone: TODAY’S UNIVERSAL BRAINMATE.
If you don't have one you must be living in the past.
I guess I am living in the past.
Don’t call me and I won’t call you because I don’t have any phone glued to my head!

THE MISSING LINK IS STILL MISSING
We're still looking for the missing link.
It's been missing for millions of years.
The Creationists and Evolutionists have been looking for it for less time.
Every few years or so this or that shocking discovery is made.
It's usually identified as an earlier descendant of homo sapiens.
The scientists give their discovery a fancy name.
Sisterpithecus or Grandpamithecus or Unclesissicus.
Then we wait for the next shocking discovery.
The chain of discoveries continues for centuries.
Bacteria become Amoebas--then they become Fish...then the FISH become Monkeys...then all of these successors develop into...HUMANS??
This horizontal (or vertical) chain has always puzzled me.
It sounds too fishy.
It sounds too pure and simple.
Where does a Higher Force/Supreme Being/God fit into this chain?
Is there really any missing link?
Where is the proof that this or that body part transformed (evolved) into this or that body part?
The dog has now been reported to be closer genetically to man than our simian cousins.
Darwin was right on the Ascent part.
But I doubt that it was from other creatures that we made our ascent.
Maybe I am missing something.
Discovered: the missing link that solves a mystery of evolution

"Scientists have made one of the most important fossil finds in history: a missing link between fish and land animals, showing how creatures first walked out of the water and on to dry land more than 375m years ago."
Palaeontologists have said that the find, a crocodile-like animal called the Tiktaalik roseae and described today in the journal Nature, could become an icon of evolution in action - like Archaeopteryx, the famous fossil that bridged the gap between reptiles and birds."
"The find is the first complete evidence of an animal that was on the verge of the transition from water to land. "The find is a dream come true," said Ted Daeschler of the Academy of Natural Sciences."

NOT A DICTATOR JUST A PREVARICATOR
Will average Americans soon be Revolutionaries of the new American century if they continue to learn how badly (or in this case how well) they have been fooled by fabricated (or in BushSpeak: wrong Intelligence) information?
Misleading data and cherry-picked Intel that the bellicose administration used to justify their costly Depleted Uranium- Radioactive pre-emptive war and occupation?
The slippery slope of Bush is becoming a fast-moving glacier.
The excuses of “We misheard and we misspoke” will no longer sell to the American people.
Americans no longer “buy” the Bush fairy tale.
The liberal left-wing factions that have been finger-pointing and Bush-bashing are gradually acquiring a majority of Americans to their side (who voted for a Long War President the second time).
Dubya, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rice are still telling us how their dandy war is going just fine.
George W. Bush…not a dictator…
JUST A PREVARICATOR!
"When the president says something, he better mean what he says. In order to be effective, in order to maintain credibility, words have got to mean something. You just can't say things in the job I'm in and not mean what you say."
George W. Bush
"I don't know of anybody in my administration who leaked classified information. If somebody did leak classified information, I'd like to know it, and we'll take the appropriate action," he said.

Bush and Cheney Discussed Plame Prior to Leak
By Jason Leopold
t r u t h o u t | Report
Monday 10 April 2006
In early June 2003, Vice President Dick Cheney met with President Bush and told him that CIA officer Valerie Plame Wilson was the wife of Iraq war critic Joseph Wilson and that she was responsible for sending him on a fact-finding mission to Niger to check out reports about Iraq's attempt to purchase uranium from the African country, according to current and former White House officials and attorneys close to the investigation to determine who revealed Plame-Wilson's undercover status to the media.
Other White House officials who also attended the meeting with Cheney and President Bush included former White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card, then-National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, her former deputy Stephen Hadley, and Deputy White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove.
This information was provided to this reporter by attorneys and US officials who have remained close to the case. Investigators working with Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald compiled the information after interviewing 36 Bush administration officials over the past two and a half years.
The revelation puts a new wrinkle into Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald's two-year-old criminal probe into the leak and suggests for the first time that President Bush knew from early on that the vice president and senior officials on his staff were involved in a coordinated effort to attack Wilson's credibility by leaking his wife's classified CIA status.

WHO DO YOU TRUST?
"The most important aspect of the new evidence is that it locates the center of the effort to discredit Ambassador Wilson, and of the actions taken to further that aim, squarely within the Oval Office."

The spin-meisters are spinning and spinning...
Spinning their collective wheels in one united chorus, but using only kids' gloves.
A few sharp jabs have been given, but it's mostly shadow-boxing.
But the American public---LIBERALS, LIBERTARIANS, DEMOCRATS, REPUBLICANS, INDEPENDENTS etc.
Are smelling a rat...or two...again!
Who do you trust?
Bush?
Cheney?
Rove?
Rumsfeld"
Rice?
None of the above?
These people have discredited their credibility with
absurd and deceptive claims that they used to ILLEGALLY, PREEMPTIVELY AND UNRIGHTIOUSLY BOMB AND OCCUPY Iraq.
Talk about National Security threats.
And
Torture.
And
Lies...Lies...
And more Lies!
Their criminal cauldron is full of lies, lies and more lies.
America is fed up!
What will we do now?
It is a serious crime to reveal the identity of a covert operative, and Bush called for a criminal investigation to “get to the bottom” of the scandal. It turns out he may be the bottom.
There is no evidence that Bush specifically authorized the leaking of Plame’s identity, and the White House is refusing to comment on an ongoing court case. But it’s not that far a reach to imagine that the president gave his tacit support to the leak. There’s nothing this administration won’t do under the guise of battling terrorism. AN UNFATHOMABLE SH*TLOAD OF MORE SNAKES
Bush Authorized Leak to Times, Libby Told Grand Jury
New York Sun Web Exclusive
By JOSH GERSTEIN - Staff Reporter of the Sun
April 6, 2006 updated 9:02 am EDT
"A former White House aide under indictment for obstructing a leak probe, I. Lewis Libby, testified to a grand jury that he gave information from a closely-guarded "National Intelligence Estimate" on Iraq to a New York Times reporter in 2003 with the specific permission of President Bush, according to a new court filing from the special prosecutor in the case."
"The court papers from the prosecutor, Patrick Fitzgerald, do not suggest that Mr. Bush violated any law or rule. However, the new disclosure could be awkward for the president because it places him, for the first time, directly in a chain of events that led to a meeting where prosecutors contend the identity of a CIA employee, Valerie Plame, was provided to a reporter."

"If Mr. Libby's account is accurate, it also involves Mr. Bush directly in the swirl of events surrounding the disclosure of the identity of an undercover C.I.A. officer."
MORE SNAKES ARE SLITHERING OUT OF BUSH AND DICK.
BUSH CAN RUN (WELL HE CAN'T RUN BECAUSE THIS IS HIS SECOND TERM), BUT HE CAN'T HIDE. DICK, OF COURSE, IS ALWAYS IN HIS BUNKER (WHEREVER IT IS).
A FEW LEFT-WING NUTS ARE ALREADY TALKING ABOUT AN OCTOBER SURPRISE (2006? 2008? BOTH?) THAT WILL HELP THE WHITE HOUSE RETAIN ITS MAJORITY IN THE CONGRESS AND EXECUTIVE BRANCH (PLENTY OF EXECUTING HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE BY THIS CROOKED GALLOWS).
ALTHOUGH THE CURRENT REVELATION (AS OUTLINED IN THE ABOVE REPORTS) IS HEARSAY AND INNUENDO, THE SHADES ARE DROPPING ON THIS NEOCON REIGN (AND THE DINGLEBERRIES ARE DROPPING ON THE BUSH!).
CERTAINLY THE DEMOCRATS WILL MAKE HAY OF THIS CURRENT NEWS TO FEED TO ITS EQUINE CONSTITUENTS.
LEAVE IT TO BUSH (NOT BEAVER) TO COVER UP, HIDE, SLIDE AND SMIRK AT THIS LATEST NEWS.

THE GATE OF PEACE AND QUIET
Build the impervious gate
NOW!
We will name it the Gate of Peace and Quiet.
But it is not a gate to keep immigrants out.
It is, however, a barrier to prevent illegal (or worse) terror-minded persons (Terrorists!) from entering the United States.
Immigrants will always be permitted to enter the United States.
But they have to do the necessary paperwork and pay the fees.
The estimated 12 million aliens already here can stay (unless they choose to leave.)
Investigate all immigrants.
If any have criminal records, then they will return IMMEDIATELY TO THEIR COUNTRY OF ORIGIN.
The millions of immigrants (albeit illegal) will receive amnesty. But this is the ONLY AMNESTY to be given.
No more amnesty after this.
Build the Gate of Peace and Quiet now.
Then we will have a safer country.

BEYOND THE PAIL
Democrats and Republicans, quit sitting on the proverbial fence, and choose honor before your politics.
Your Censure of George W. Bush would at least indicate to the voting public that some parts of Congress want to point out sins and machinations of the Bush administration.
We are now informed that the Long War President KNEW that those aluminum tubes COULD NOT be used for nuclear weapons.
Yet he STILL told the nation that THEY WERE.
His administration lied about Katrina.
His administration lied about Iraq.
It lied about domestic surveillance.
"This hearing, I think, is beyond the pale," said Senator John Cornyn, Republican of Texas.
Mr. Cornyn, the hearing may be beyond the pale...but what this administration did in Iraq (and in the name of national security) lies deep down, within a cesspool.
And the perverse and false messages came from this administration.
Senator Jeff Sessions, Republican of Alabama, added, "Let's don't play games with their (soldiers) lives."
Mr. Sessions, the lives of soldiers were played with when this administration put them in Iraq based upon false information.

LOCK YOUR DOORS AND WINDOWS
"We can forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light." -Plato
Andrew Card was discarded from the stacked deck.
The president made it sound like Mr. Card volunteered on his own to resign.
But Bush's poll numbers are a more likely motive.
This slick legerdemain doesn't fool the American public.
New diversions are required to remove attention away from the lies and misdemeanors.
Naturally, the Democrats will use any or all of the nuances and changes in the Bush White House to feather their own nests. As Dylan said:
WE LIVE IN A POLITICAL WORLD.
The Long War President will probably serve out his presidency without censure or impeachment.
History, however, will not be so kind or indifferent.
America has been living inside a little (or huge) shop of horrors.
This Venus Fly Trap presidency is not over yet.
Lock your doors and windows.
There are dark days and storms on the horizon (I know: This is negative thinking of the liberal left-wing).

MOVIE SEQUELS
When was the last time you said: "Wow! This sequel is as good as the first movie!" or "This sequel is better than the first one!"
I liked the first Cocoon better than its sequel.
I liked the first Rocky best.
Same for The Terminator.
Same for Poltergeist.
Same for Psycho.
Same for Back To The Future.
Sequels shouldn't be made.
I once thought that it would be good to see an E.T. II.
Rumor had it that there would be a sequel.
Thank goodness it never happened.
I thought that I was blinking too fast last week when I first glimpsed and heard an advertisement for Basic Instinct. "Oh, I thought, it's being shown on network T.V. again."
Wrong.
Tonight I blinked more slowly and saw some raunchy scenes for Basic Instinct II.
I think I saw Sharon Stone on her hands and knees. I won't finish the scene. It was unsettling.
Movie sequels should be against the law.
Write your Congressman.

TEXAS BAR GESTAPO
Police enter a Texas bar.
They sweep the place and look for intoxicated patrons.
This is where people drink...a little...a lot...or too much.
And that is why Texas has this law.
Arrest anyone who drinks...a little...a lot...or too much.
I guess police have plenty of time on their hands when they can visit public drinking establishments to look at intoxicated bar patrons, then determine if they are intoxicated.
Of course they are intoxicated.
IT'S A BAR.
THIS IS WHAT ONE DOES IN A BAR!
Good grief.
Get rid of this law.
Arrest the intoxicated patron when he or she tries to drive home.
Otherwise, leave the drinkers alone.
Who wrote this law?
Who voted for it?
Arrest them!

FIRE THE CEO
"Bush is saying 'I'm the president' and, on a range of issues -- from war to torture to illegal surveillance -- 'I can do as I like,'. "This administration needs to be slapped down and held accountable for actions that could change the shape of our democracy."
Michael Ratner of the Center for Constitutional Rights
I heard today that our founding fathers (I've always liked that phrase) wanted to call the leader of this new nation a magistrate.
Fine.
That was then and that was what they wanted, but this is not what we have now.
We have a PRESIDENT.
When a corporation has a president and CEO, and either one does an incompetent job, and lies to or misleads his or her employees and shareholders...the CEO or PRESIDENT IS FIRED!
Our CEO…our commander-in-chief…the leader of our nation...the President of the United States...SHOULD BE FIRED!
He is now getting a cold shoulder from his own constituents.
This president and his presidency is not just under scrutiny.
It is under indictment.
Not a legal one...YET.
But in the homes and towns of America, President George W. Bush is now viewed as an incompetent leader (CEO).
A liar.
Some have even called the Long War President an idiot.
The voices of the people are going to continue to raise the volume of their disapproval.
Until what?
Until some type of self-protective coup?
Until there is a suspension of the next Presidential election as a result of some national emergency which requires Martial Rule (Law)?
Nah.
This is America…or
WAS!
"Impeachment is the only recourse that can bring a halt to the madness in Iraq, and the insanity being planned in Iran and elsewhere."
"Looking back on the string of unfulfilled objectives, broken promises, squandered dreams, shattered bodies and eviscerated lives that was and is the war in Iraq, one thought emerges plain and clear. This isn't simply a result of bad governance. This is criminal."
"Bad governance is telling the American people that a war with Iraq would be concluded in a manner of months, and would cost the American taxpayer less that $2 billion, when in fact the war has gone on for three years now, with no end in sight, and over a quarter-trillion dollars have been expended, with untold billions more to be spent."
"Criminal governance is the fabrication of a justification for war (weapons of mass destruction), hiding the President’s true intentions from the American people and the Congress of the United States (Bush signed off on the Iraq war plans in late August 2002, and yet continued to publicly state that no decision for military action had been made), and shredding international law by waging an aggressive war of pre-emption void of any United Nations Security Council resolution authorizing such actions."
"Bad governance is manipulating war planning on the part of military professionals so that we enter into a conflict with far too few troops for the task, with no plan for how to proceed once the fighting ended and the reality of occupation set in."
"Criminal governance is violating every principle of the laws of war in the conduct of the occupation of Iraq, manipulating the economic and political direction of Iraq, suppressing its population, and engaging in wanton acts of widespread murder, torture and abuse of the Iraqi people."
"The fact is the war in Iraq has degenerated into one giant hate crime."

BRAIN TRUST
Brain Surgeon: "Mr. President, the operation is over. We have successfully removed Karl Rove from your brain."
George W. Bush: "Praise Allah...I mean, thank the Lord! Does this mean I can think on my own now?"
Brain Surgeon: "Yes, Mr. President. You have your own brain now."
George W. Bush: "Good. I can now look Americans straight in the eye and speak my own mind...give 'em the truth."
Brain Surgeon: "Yes sir."
George W. Bush: "Alright. I’ll tell my staff and writers that I'm on my own now. I'll start fielding unrehearsed questions. Have more press conferences. Renew the trust and faith of the American people. Work on my poll numbers.
Brain Surgeon: Mr. President, there's just one more thing.
George W. Bush: "What thing?"
Brain Surgeon: "Karl Rove's brain. What do we do with it?"

I DIDN'T WANT WAR
"I just want you to know that, when we talk about war, we're really talking about peace."
George W. Bush
"I think war is a dangerous place."
George W. Bush
"I'm telling you what's on my mind. And what's on my mind is winning the war on terror."
George W. Bush
I am not your dictator.
I was your War President, but now I am your Long War President.
I am spending your capital.
It is unfair to say I wanted war; it is fair to say that God wanted me to.
The Iraq war is quite uncivil...not civil.
Why did I bomb Iraq?
I did it to make Halliburton richer, that's why! And I would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren’t for the free press!
"Perhaps what we should learn from our own reactions to September 11 is that the massive destruction of innocents is something that is unlikely to be either forgotten or forgiven. If this is so, then destroying Iraq, whether with sanctions or with bombs, is unlikely to bring the security we have gone to such lengths to preserve." Joy Gordon

SWARMING WITH LIES
Swarmer 1: Hello Swarmers. We have cows and goats on our radar screens.
No combatants.
No farmers.
They must be asleep.
We have the element of surprise on this one!
Dick Cheney: I can hear you loud and clear Swarmer 1. These Nazis are not going to kick us out of Iraq. Carry on with your mission Swarmers!
Swarmer 1: 10-4 on that, sir. We should have this mission under wraps in a few hours. Swarmers, bail out.

CIGARETTES AND HOMELAND SECURITY
HOMELAND SECURITY: Sorry, but you'll have to extinguish that cigarette.
SMOKER: But I'm outside for Pete's sake!
HOMELAND SECURITY: But Pete and the general public do not want to inhale the smoke from your second hand.
SMOKER: What?
HOMELAND SECURITY: I mean your second-hand smoke. It's THE LAW.
SMOKER: O.K. Where can I smoke?
HOMELAND SECURITY: At home.
SMOKER: But I want to smoke now. My home is 50 miles from here.
HOMELAND SECURITY: Sorry, but you're breaking THE LAW by smoking here.
SMOKER: Just let me take this last puff...
HOMELAND SECURITY: NO! YOU'RE UNDER ARREST. IN THE NAME OF HOMELAND SECURITY HAND OVER THAT PACK OF CIGARETTES AND PUT YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK!

ANNIVERSARY OF U.S. SHOCK AND AWE INVASION
"The new money for the Iraq occupation comes on top of the $50 billion in supplemental war funding that the Congress had already approved for the current fiscal year, after spending $100 billion last year. And the administration says it will be back soon seeking another $50 billion for the coming fiscal year. All of this spending is in addition to the record $439.3 billion defense budget the president submitted to Congress." John Nichols, Three Years of War With No Checks, No Balances, The Nation, 3/18/06
George W. Bush & the NeoCon cabal under him (or over him) wanted to invade Iraq...WELL BEFORE all of the "bad intelligence."
The President’s NeoCon gang [Rove, Perle, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, etc.] were licking their lips WELL BEFORE 9-11.
George W. Bush placed America in a messy and bottomless bog in Iraq.
The Iraq bog is not limned by the Long War President as a boondoggle, but as another important (but lethal) chapter of American history that he believes will turn the pages of Freedom and Democracy.
But the melody of the old tune is changing.
Yes, the U.S. will remain until there is “VICTORY”.
But it is now the Iraqis who must take charge and decide if
they want to live in unity AND peace OR war.
The Long War President is greasing wheels of the cart which will turn and shuttle troops out of Iraq just in time for the 2006 elections.
Iraq is over.
Iran is before us.
America and the world will be Bush-Whacked once again!
BUT THE AMERICAN PUBLIC MUST RAISE THEIR VOICES AND CAST THEIR VOTES TO PUT A STOP TO THIS DESPOT AND HIS FOLLOWERS!

FINISH THE JOB IN IRAQ!
03/16/06 - TIKRIT, Iraq, March 15 (Reuters):
"Major Ali Ahmed of the Ishaqi police said U.S. forces had landed on the roof of the house in the early hours and shot the 11 occupants, including the five children."
"After they left the house they blew it up," he said.
Another policeman, Colonel Farouq Hussein, said autopsies had been carried out at Tikrit hospital and found "all the victims had gunshot wounds to the head".
"The bodies, their hands bound, had been dumped in one room before the house was destroyed, Hussein said. Police had found spent American-issue cartridges in the rubble."
"Finish the job?"
Complete the mission?"
What do these statements mean?
Kill more and more Iraqis while killing the "TERRORISTS"?
Kill the sects who are fighting each other?
Can this be accomplished with more and more violence?
Will this be achieved with more and more air assaults (the most since the invasion!)?
Embroiled in an imbroglio, sinking deeper into the morass...Victory must not be far behind.
We remember Vietnam.
The increased bombing and escalation did not end that war.
But the Long War President and the GOP need to show the American public that they are in charge...
gaining ground...
making progress...
on the road to victory...
securing freedom and democracy...
BUT...
"Stories of American missiles hitting the homes of innocents are passed between Iraqi men at teahouses and during Friday worship services."
"Residents worry that their homes will be bombed at any time," said Hussein Ali Jaafar, who owns a stationery shop in the town of Balad, north of Baghdad, which was targeted by bombs or missiles at least 27 times between October 2005 and February 2006. "Most of the bombing is unjustified and random. It does not differentiate between militants and innocent people."
"A tribal sheik who lives on the outskirts of the troubled Anbar town of Ramadi, who asked that he be identified as Abu Tahseen instead of by his full name out of fear of possible retribution, said that the strikes create more insurgents than they kill because of the region's tribal dictates of revenge."
"They (the Americans) think: `As long as there are resistance fighters operating in this spot, we will wipe it out entirely,'" Abu Tahseen said, using the term for insurgents favored by Iraqis sympathetic to their cause. "As you know, our nature is a tribal one, and so if one from us is killed, we kill three or four in return." Tom Lasseter, Knight Ridder Newspapers, 3/14/06
Osama Jadaan al Dulaimi, a tribal leader in the western town of Karabilah, a town near the Syrian border that was hit with bombs or missiles on at least 17 days between October 2005 and February 2006, said the bombings had created enemies:
"The people of Karabilah hate the foreigners who crossed the border and entered their areas and got into a fight with the Americans," al Dulaimi said. "The residents now also hate the American occupiers who demolished their houses with bombs and killed their families ... and now the people of Karabilah want to join the resistance against the Americans for what they did." INSECT CYBORGS
Honey: Did you hear about the latest experiments by DARPA? They're going to implant micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) into insects such as dragonflies and moths...even into hopping and swimming insects!
Beau: Why?
Honey: To create Insect Cyborgs.
Beau: Explain.
Honey: Well, these flying insects can go where humans can't.
Beau: And do what?
Honey: Find bombs. Chemicals. Gas.
Beau: How?
Honey: With sensors that are implanted into an insect when it’s still in the pupal stage. The body of the insect will then heal wounds and reposition internal organs around the minute mechanical structures that have been implanted.
Beau: How will they know where the Insect Cyborgs go?
Honey: They’ll use Remote Control and GPS (Global Positioning System).
Beau: I'm glad I'm a lizard.
Honey: I'm glad I'm a worm.
Beau: Why?
Honey: To create Insect Cyborgs.
Beau: Explain.
Honey: Well, these flying insects can go where humans can't.
Beau: And do what?
Honey: Find bombs. Chemicals. Gas.

FOWL TALK
Pepe: We are getting a bad rap from this Bird Flu scare.
Carolina: Yes. It’s a foul thing, but we still have our job to do.
Pepe: Well, at least your job. Mine isn't to lay eggs, but to greet the morning sun.
Carolina: Don't act so proud. Have a little empathy for my pains.
Pepe: Sorry. I’m upset. It isn’t our fault if we get the flu. And we live and peck on this earth for only a short while.
Carolina: At least people are getting prepared in case we do get sick.
Pepe: How?
Carolina: Well, people are being asked to put tuna fish and powdered milk under their beds.
Pepe: And what do we do?
Carolina: I don't know.
Pepe: I do. We'll put crackers and chicken soup under our nests!
Carolina: Yes. It’s a foul thing, but we still have our job to do.

QUESTIONS FROM AN EXTRATERRESTRIAL
1. Why do humans take so many drugs with all of those strange names?
2. Why can't humans on TV make their mouths move at the same time that they speak?
3. What attracts your dogs to fire hydrants?
4. Why are your hamburgers made under golden arches?
5. Where do those square-shaped fish come from?
6. Why do humans walk and drive around with phones stuck to their heads?
7. Why do you have so many wars?
8. What happened to your music?
9. Why do you drink so much alcohol when you know that it will give you headaches and make you sick?
10. When are you going to leave your puny solar system?

A BUNGLING BUCKEROO IN THE OFFICE OF SPECIAL PLANS
Speaking at a news conference after the talks, President Bush said:
"It's a necessary agreement. It's one that will help both our
peoples."
"According to official World Health Organization and Department of State statistics, global deaths per year due to physical violence amounted to 1,600,000 (2002), traffic
accidents, 1,200,000 (2004), and terrorism 625 (2003)."
Peoples?
Pupils?
Pimples?
Choose one.
It doesn’t matter.
The Long War President was bungling the English language.
He had bungled beyond belief.
He had bungled when he wire-tapped citizens in the United States.
He had bungled when he approved of Torture.
He had bungled in NOT bagging Osama bin Laden.
He had bungled on Katrina.
He had bungled on the Ports.
He had bungled and belied on Iraq.[See Below]
He had bungled when he bestowed nuclear weapons to India. This big-time bungler-spender…this bellicose and bamboozling bungler…this bombastic break-the-law bungler…this bumptious and babbling bungler…
THIS BUNGLING BUCKAROO HAD BLATANTLY BILKED AND BANKRUPTED THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!
WHAT WAS IT ALL ABOUT?
"The CIA was totally undercut since the day Bush occupied the White House (when) he set up a thing called the WHIG (the White House Iraq Group). Basically it was (also) called the Office of Special Plans and this was a group made up of individuals controlled by Mr. Cheney; (they were) Paul Wolfowitz, Michael Leanen, Richard Perle, John Hannah, people like that".
"They were basically involved in creating or gathering intelligence which that they thought was important, as far as proving the case for the war in Iraq. What we know now is that this Office of Special Plans or this WHIG, never really gathered any intelligence at all about the war in Iraq, (but rather); they MANUFACTURED the evidence for the purpose of taking American boys to their deaths, based on a lie."
"Folks, the evidence in. It is the Office of Special Plans. It was a surreptitious conspiracy to take the American people to war for financial and political reasons."
"George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, with deliberation and intent, took this country to war in Iraq based on false premises, inflated intelligence and bald-faced scare tactics. They used September 11 against their own people to get what they wanted. That is the heart of this matter."
"The Office of Special Plans, or OSP, was created by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld specifically to second-guess and reinterpret intelligence data to justify war in Iraq."
"The OSP was on no government payroll and suffered no Congressional oversight. Their tainted information and interpretations overtopped the Iraq data being provided by the State Department and CIA. The OSP was able to accomplish this thanks to devoted patronage from high-ranking members of the administration, most prominently Vice-President Cheney."
"The highest levels of the OSP were staffed by heavy-hitters like Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Douglas J. Feith and William Luti, a former Navy officer who worked for Cheney before joining the Pentagon. When the OSP wanted to intimidate analysts into shaping conclusions to fit the already-made war decision, Cheney went to CIA headquarters on unprecedented visits."
THE IDIOT OF IRAN
"There may be no option but the use of force. But before we find ourselves irrevocably on such a track, there is a strong case for trying the engagement alternative first, and in a serious way."
"At the least, Americans must have the debate about Iran that we did not have about Iraq. It needs to center on choices about long-term strategy toward the Middle East. If we do not have this discussion, then we can expect to have yet another mournful postmortem later on."
[Robert E. Hunter, a senior advisor at the Rand Corp., was U.S. ambassador to NATO from 1993 to 1998.]
“Next, we’re going to have the Iranian campaign. We’ve declared war and the bad guys, wherever they are, are the enemy. This is the last hurrah—we’ve got four years, and want to come out of this saying we won the war on terrorism.” [Former high-level intelligence official]
Right now there is a deafening silence about what the United States (i.e. Rumsfeld, Cheney & Rice) plans to do to Iran.
[Note: Since writing this the silence has been broken as more and more strident voices are calling for a military "solution" in Iran]
The annihilation of Iran is on the shelf (or as our leaders like to say "all options are on the table".)
The Republicans would appreciate a new war.
The current war with Iraq is in shambles.
A new war would also remove the microscope from other issues: What did the Bush administration know about 9-11 before it happened and what did the White House not do to prevent it; the Dubai deal; Katrina; domestic spying; the lies that led to the pre-emptive war with Iraq; Impeachment, etc.
The National Security issues and THE WAR ON TERROR could be put back on the front burner for the GOP in the 2006 elections.
The Idiot of Iran will get bombed if he does not relent and renounce his nuclear ambitions.
Let us hope that more diplomacy (or bribes) can persuade the Iranian Idiot to stop his nuclear blackmail.
If not, get ready for more blood and money to irradiate terra firma.

ENCELADUS
Enceladus, tiny giant of fire and ice, may be a helpful holiday inn for future space explorers.
Only 300 miles in diameter, this shiny moon is alive with geysers that spew warm water and ice.
When I heard about this latest wonderful discovery within our solar system, I thought about how our own beautiful planet's paragon of animals is still fighting its perpetual (Bush's Long) war(s).
How sad.
May our species stay alive long enough to enjoy a cup of coffee or a snow cone on Enceladus.

BUSH BOONDOGGLES
The Republicans are seizing this moment.
They want to put a spacious chasm between themselves and President Bush.
The Dubai deal has become a boon from Bush for Republicans and Democrats, but a big boondoggle for the Long War President.
Bush wants Arabs to run America's ports, but American citizens DON'T!
The Republicans want to retain their seats (and their pants).
Bush is (as usual) as resilient as concrete.
The Democrats are also getting in their partisan licks, and throwing the Dubai Port pie into the face of terror (9-11) that Bush has worn and used to scare (Control?) the American people.
It has become overwhelmingly obvious to the American people that the Long War President's regime-cabal is wholly self-serving when it comes to money-making...for friends and cronies.
But (as the Long War President has told us)(and this administration can not have it both ways): You are either for America or with the Terrorists.
The LWP has recently shown that he can side with Terror if it means profits.
India and the U.A.E. are egregious examples.

WANT NUCLEAR BOMBS? NO PROBLEM!
"By international agreement, any country that refuses to sign the NPT is ineligible for nuclear technology assistance. This has been the United States' stance toward India for 30 years. But Bush signed an agreement with India last week that will give India access to top level atomic energy technology. Under the agreement only 14 of India's 22 nuclear reactors will be placed under international supervision. You can guess which ones will be supervised those dedicated to energy production. Those dedicated to nuclear weapons material production are off limits."
"Can The 2005 Elections Slow Bush/Cheney?", 3/06/2006, Gerald S. Rellick/rense.com [Gerald S. Rellick, Ph.D., worked in aerospace industry for 22 years. He now teaches in the California Community College system.]
When George W. Bush needs some Arabs, he makes them work to his advantage.
When George W. Bush needs some Indians, he makes them work to his advantage.
When George W. Bush needs another war, he makes a country work to his advantage.
India can have nuclear weapons, our technical help and blessings! EVEN IF India has not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. No problem.
Iran CAN NOT HAVE nuclear weapons! Iran will get our bombs and our shock and awe! No problem.
It's like when I am in New York and ordering breakfast.

No problem.
"You want hash browns?"
No problem.

UPDATE: MORALS & MARBLES
"We have before us in the White House a thief who steals the country's good name and reputation for his private interest and personal use; a liar who seeks to instill in the American people a state of fear; a televangelist who engages the United States in a never-ending crusade against all the world's evil, a wastrel who squanders a vast sum of the nation's wealth on what turns out to be a recruiting drive certain to multiply the host of our enemies. In a word, a criminal—known to be armed and shown to be dangerous. Under the three-strike rule available to the courts in California, judges sentence people to life in jail for having stolen from Wal-Mart a set of golf clubs or a child's tricycle. Who then calls strikes on President Bush, and how many more does he get before being sent down on waivers to one of the Texas Prison Leagues?"
"The Case for Impeachment", Lewis H. Lapham, Harpers Magazine [2/27/06]
"HAS GEORGE BUSH LOST HIS MARBLES?"
Patrick J. Buchanan/2-28-06
Yes he has Pat.
He was losing them well before he became the Long War President.
I lost my marbles when I was around 11 years old.
But these were the cats-eye, steely and agate kind of marbles.
However, George has lost more than his marbles.
He has also lost his morals.

SHARK CONVERSATION
Mo: "Hey, what are they doing to my brain?"
Jo: "I don't know Mo, but they're messing with my brain, too."
Mo: "We've got to have our monthly Shark Association meeting immediately."
Jo: "Yep. It’s an emergency. All of our brains are in jeopardy."
Mo: “The military are making us their guinea pigs.”
Jo: “Yep. They couldn’t make dolphins obey them.”
Mo: “Or the American public. And so we filled the vacuum.”
Jo: “Yep. Our implants might help them find terrorists; but all we want to do is eat.”
Mo: “Right. Well, let’s swim and try to avoid the humans…or we’ll become their fish bait.”
Jo: “You mean their fish slaves!”
Mo: “Right. Uh oh…I see those bubbles again. They’re back. Quick! Out of here!”
IT'S THE OIL STUPID!

PARANOIA AND DEMON EYES
German Nazi death camp guards wore the emblem of Skull and Bones on the shoulders of their uniforms.
The dark eyes of Condoleeza Rice and Michael Chertoff scare me.
The Mushroom Cloud Lady is now our Secretary of State.
The Patriot Act co-author is now our Secretary of Homeland Security (HSS).
We remember what little veracity there was in Ms. Rice’s comment about Mushroom Clouds forming in Iraq.
We remember how Mr. Chertoff handled Hurricane Katrina.
Who would dare pull out of the thin and unsubstantiated air an adjective such as EVIL for these ominous orbs?
But who picked these two people with their grim and gloomy peepers?
Why, of course.
It was a Skull and Bones bonesman named George W. Bush.
Do you see what I can see?

VOLTAIRE'S FAMOUS BUT
Does our 8 Trillion Dollar National Debt make our Lenders feel secure?
Any parallels between WWII Europe (Germany: Where wheelbarrows were needed to transport the inflated currency) & the United States?
Maybe not.
But…
Unnecessary Pre-Emptive Wars don’t work very well.
But look at Iraq.
(Of course, I mean this as irony.)
On Iran:
Would it be safer to let the Iranian nutcase get his bombs than bomb him?
Maybe.

IN PLATO'S CAVE
"The kernel here (in Iraq) is the acknowledgment of defeat." William F. Buckley, 2-24-2006
No more cover-ups or in-denial rhetoric please!
In Baghdad it is the beginning of the end, and not the end of the beginning.
The Long War President resides in Plato's Cave, and he does not know the difference between shadows and reality.
The Long War President believes the following shadows are reality:
"We are winning the peace in Iraq even though we are losing.'
"It is getting worse in Iraq but it is getting better."
"There won't be a civil war in Iraq, but the Sunnis and Shiites are blowing up each other and their mosques.”
“Trust me. I am cute. I am your Long War President who will not stop fighting in Iraq until freedom and democracy are spread and we have achieved total victory!”
“You can’t impeach me. The Congress and the Supreme Court are in my pockets!”

MY BRAIN KNOWS BEST
UAE citizen Marwan Al-Shehhi slammed Flight 175 into the World Trade Center. Eleven hijackers came through UAE, and half their money. A.Q. Khan shipped nuclear parts through UAE to North Korea and Iran.
This is The Brain of Bush Karl Rove.
Forgive the Long War President for not backing down from the Dubai Port deal.
He's been out of the loop in the past few days, weaning Americans off of their oil addiction.
Air Force One now needs a major tune-up.
As for me, The Brain of Bush, I have also been succoring Dick Cheney's wounds from his recent alcoholic shooting incident.
But I do have a Big Brain, so I can accommodate the Vice President and the President of the United States.
But back to the Dubai Port deal.
My Brain has advised the Long War President that it will ask our U.A.E. business friends to give us more time to sell this juicy deal to the Congress and the American people.
My Brain knows Best.
My Brain knows that we do not want our Arab friends to think that we don't trust or like them.
As long as Big Money is involved and coming our way, we like and trust anyone. Arabs, the Chinese, the French...well, maybe not the Frogs.
Just as the Long War President isn't that concerned about Osama bin Laden anymore, he is equally unconcerned about the U.A.E. where two of its citizens were 9/11 terrorists.
The Long War President knows that this rich and clean empire has allowed its banks to handle money for Al-Qaeda. No big deal.
As Donald Rumsfeld (who doesn't rely on my Big Brain) has told us: "Stuff happens... and free people are free to make mistakes and commit crimes and do bad things."

GIVE ME ANOTHER BEER!
VP: "Alright fellows, I'm ready for another beer. This heart-thinning medicine gives me quite a buzz."
Aide: "Mr. Vice President, are you sure you should continue drinking? Are you able to walk?"

VP: "Hey, give me two beers instead of one so I don't have to stop in the middle of my shooting."
VP: "Hey, look! There's a big quail heading toward me right now!"
("Bang! Bang! Bang!)
VP: "I got him!! I got him!!"
Aide: "Sir, you just shot Harry!"
VP: "Well, at least I didn't miss."
Aide: "Quick. Get him to a doctor."

OSAMA BIN LADEN COME HOME!
If the U.A.E. is going to help Homeland Security run U.S. seaports, then Osama bin Laden might be freed from whatever cave he has been getting his dialysis in...And come home!
Come to the Land of the Brave and the Home of the Free!
All is forgiven!
Arab terrorists are welcome!
The Iraq war was a lie!
It was a mistake!
Nevertheless, the War President will do business with terrorist sympathizers, just like grandpa did with Hitler’s Germany!
Mr. Chertoff's incompetence is not complete yet.
He failed during Hurricane Katrina, and he can fail some more.
But wait!
Maybe giving contracts to the U.A.E. is a secret mission.
Maybe we want to attract more terrorists so that we can snuff them out in our ports before they reach our cities.
Yes, that's the ticket.
All is well.
Put out the red carpet for the United Arab Emirates!
Praise Allah!

MARS HERE WE COME!
I was watching 60 Minutes the other night.
The subject was Global Warming.
It was reported that CO2 levels haven't been this high for thousands of years.
Maybe millions!
The earth will still rise ONE DEGREE more even if every CO2-spewing machine stopped its polluting right now!
It was then stated that the ice caps are still going to continue melting regardless whether the machine stops!
And what will happen when the world doesn't decrease current CO2 levels?
It was also stated that the U.S.A. is the world's biggest polluter.
More intense storms are in our future.
Live like hell now, because a larger hell is on its way.

"Since the invasion of Saddam's Iraq, those bases -- call them what you will -- have been at the heart of the Bush administration's "reconstruction" of the country. To this day, those Little Americas, with their KBR-lands, their Pizza Huts, their stop signs, and their miniature golf courses remain at the secret heart of Bush administration "reconstruction" policy. As long as KBR keeps building them, making their facilities ever more enduring (and ever more valuable), there can be no genuine "withdrawal" from Iraq, nor even an intention of doing so. Right now, despite the recent visits of a couple of reporters, those super-bases remain enswathed in a kind of policy silence. The Bush administration does not discuss them (other than to deny their permanency from time to time). No presidential speeches deal with them. No plans for them are debated in Congress. The opposition Democrats generally ignore them and the press -- with the exception of the odd columnist -- won't even put the words "base," "permanent," and "Iraq" in the same paragraph".
"It may be hard to do, given the skimpy coverage, but keep your eyes directed at our "super-bases." Until the administration blinks on them, there will be no withdrawal from Iraq." [Can you Say "Permanent Bases"?, Tom Engelhardt, Mother Jones, 2-14-06]
George W. Bush and his writers have been telling us what they want us to hear, but not what is really happening.
In order for the Bush regime to retain its stranglehold of power over Congress, the American people and the world, its propaganda apparatus must constantly remind us that the Long War will continue until it has been "won" (VICTORY!).
This is both delusion and deception.
It is a grand illusion and the big lie (which I know is offensive to the liars).
The turf of Iraq must remain in the talons of the U.S. Eagle even while we tell the world that our high and mighty bird (of prey?) is just passing over and through until the Iraqis can stand on their own feet (if they don't get knocked over by the bombs of us or them).
This Long War has been sad and tragic; but lucrative.
The lucre has gone to the civilian and military contractors there and over here.
The American people, of course, have been (and will continue to be) the obedient and devoted financiers of the LONG WAR.
In the meantime (and it is a very mean time indeed), the money filling the treacherous trough (& black hole) of Bush's Long War has decreased funding for (among other things) the education of America’s children (Bush’s No Child Left With A Behind ) and Health Care (Screw the old folks...they're going to die pretty soon anyway!).
But the U.S. embassy in Iraq will still get its funding:
"The Bush administration is sinking between $600 million and $1 billion in construction funds into a new U.S. embassy. It is to arise in Baghdad's Green Zone on a plot of land along the Tigris River that is reportedly two-thirds the area of the National Mall in Washington, DC. The plans for this "embassy" are almost mythic in nature. A high-tech complex, it is to have "15ft blast walls and ground-to-air missiles" for protection as well as bunkers to guard against air attacks. It will, according to Chris Hughes, security correspondent for the British Daily Mirror, include "as many as 300 houses for consular and military officials" and a "large-scale barracks" for Marines. The "compound" will be a cluster of at least 21 buildings, assumedly nearly self-sufficient, including "a gym, swimming pool, barber and beauty shops, a food court and a commissary. Water, electricity and sewage treatment plants will all be independent from Baghdad's city utilities." It is being billed as "more secure than the Pentagon" (not, perhaps, the most reassuring tagline in the post-9/11 world). If not quite a city-state, on completion it will resemble an embassy-state. In essence, inside Baghdad's Green Zone, we will be building another more heavily fortified little Green Zone. [Can You Say "Permanent Bases"?, Tom Engelhardt, Mother Jones, 2-14-06]
And those huge ("non-permanent") bases in Iraq will receive their funding:
"Thomas Ricks of the Washington Post paid a visit to Balad Air Base, the largest American base in the country, 68 kilometers north of Baghdad and "smack in the middle of the most hostile part of Iraq." In a piece entitled Biggest Base in Iraq Has Small-Town Feel, Ricks paints a striking portrait:
"The base is sizeable enough to have its own "neighborhoods" including "KBR-land" (in honor of the Halliburton subsidiary that has done most of the base-construction work in Iraq); "CJSOTF" ("home to a special operations unit," the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force, surrounded by "especially high walls," and so secretive that even the base Army public affairs chief has never been inside); and a junkyard for bombed out Army Humvees. There is as well a Subway, a Pizza Hut, a Popeye's, "an ersatz Starbucks," a 24-hour Burger King, two post exchanges where TVs, iPods, and the like can be purchased, four mess halls, a hospital, a strictly enforced on-base speed limit of 10 MPH, a huge airstrip, 250 aircraft (helicopters and predator drones included), air-traffic pile-ups of a sort you would see over Chicago's O'Hare airport, and "a miniature golf course, which mimics a battlefield with its baby sandbags, little Jersey barriers, strands of concertina wire and, down at the end of the course, what appears to be a tiny detainee cage." [Can You Say "Permanent Bases"?,Tom Engelhardt, Mother Jones, 2-14-06]

LET ARABS RUN AMERICAN PORTS?
"Sure as shooting I know that a couple of the 9/11 terrorists were from the U.A.E.”
“O.K. I also know that some money got to the 9/11 bombers through the banking system in the U.A.E. "
"But we have to move on."
"We are making a bundle on this sale."
"America can be safe when Arabs run our ports."
"It just takes some faith."
"And War."
"Our mighty military is spreading the freedom in Iraq."
"The terrorists there...the Islamofascists...are getting their faces pelted so that we can have Arabs safely run and control our American ports here."
"All right. I'm now going to do some bird hunting.”
“No, Dick won’t be coming."

QUAIL HUNTING IS NOT WAR
He is likes to pull the trigger.
He likes to hunt birds.
But these things are not the same as a real war.
He said that he had other priorities when asked why he had received five deferments to avoid going to war himself.
He is good at taking American boys and girls to war.
He is good at pulling the trigger.
Quail hunting is not war.
He likes to have money.
So do all of us.
His ties with Halliburton before the Iraq war enabled him to help his Halliburton buddies after the pre-emptive war.
The soldiers continue to die.
They are like the helpless quail that Dick Cheney so enjoys to hunt and kill.
Hunting quail is a sport.
WAR IS NOT!

DICK CHENEY: I PULLED THE TRIGGER
"[Go] F**k yourself"
Dick Cheney
Direct threats require decisive action.
Dick Cheney
We will, in fact, be greeted as liberators.
Dick Cheney
"I successfully shot U.S. cruise missiles which peppered Iraq with shock and awe."
"It's a day I'll never forget."
"It was one of the best days of my life."
"Of course, many civilians died during that daring peppering, but this can happen when you're hunting for evildoers and dictators."
"I take the blame."
"I pulled the trigger."
"I shot a country."
"I hope the patient survives my shooting."

DICK CHENEY AND SHOOTING BIRDS
“The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers”. (Shakespeare, Henry VI)
The Scene:
Quail hunting in South Texas.
Characters: A United States vice-president (not Dan Quayle), but Dick Cheney and Harry Whittington, 78, a lawyer.
Dick Cheney, the man with the crooked smile who likes to torture (except when he is hunting birds.)
Dick Cheney, the man with the bad heart who told us that Iraq had those WMD (and still looks for them while he is Quail-hunting).
Dick Cheney missed again.
Correction: He made a hit.
"The shooting, which occurred at about 6:30 p.m. Eastern time, left a prominent Austin lawyer and Republican campaign supporter, Harry Whittington, wounded by shotgun pellets in the neck, shoulder and chest." [New York Times, 2-13-06]
A spokesperson described how birds were flushed out and then the VP fired, “peppering Mr. Whittington pretty good”.
We all empathize with the lawyer who was shot by the vice president and wish him a speedy recovery.
In the meantime, the VP should forego any more Quail hunting but continue his planning for bigger birds such as Iran.
And remember, GUNS DON’T KILL PEOPLE, PEOPLE DO!

ODE ON SNOW
Snowstorms!
Piles of snow!
Soft, crystalline white snowflakes!
Feathered rain!
Powder snow!
Falling snow!
Up to the kneecaps snow!
Snow stuck on sidewalks and streets!
Snowballs!
Snowmen!
Snowdrift!
Sledding on soft snow!
Crunching snow!
Snow cones!

COCKPICK
Bush is doing it again.
He said cockpick...not cockpit.
How can anyone take this guy seriously?
Especially the world.
The War President bungled badly when he attacked Iraq.
He is still bungling the English language.
The War on Terror and the Terrorists are shaking in their boots...with laughter.
Cockpick.

A FUNERAL WITH MEANING
Thank you President Carter.
Thank you Reverend Joseph Lowery.
Thank you President Clinton.
You have honored Coretta King.
Even funerals can be political.
The politics of life and the politics of death.
The issues of peace and civil rights do not disappear in death.
They did not disappear with the deaths of Martin Luther King or Coretta Scott King.
Instead of giving just sound bites of praise (which is fine), two former presidents and one reverend mentioned social and political issues that Martin and Coretta King would have applauded.
O.K. It was the Kennedy administration that approved the F.B.I. to spy on MLK. It was wrong then and it is wrong today.
Martin Luther King was a man of peace and justice.
The Iraq War is unjust, and he would have said so.
The Republican Media mouthpieces are singing their usual shrill songs of indignation and disapproval that anyone should be critical of the current administration...even at a funeral.
But for once Rove & NeoCons did not have pre-approved robotic shills or a staged audience to wrap the flag around George W. Bush.

THE PLANET WITHOUT A NAME
If Pluto remains the yardstick for planet classification, our solar system's family of planets might increase.
The dark and mysterious connotation of Pluto may also disappear if larger planetary bodies are discovered which are more distant than Pluto.
Right now (the planet without a name) 2003 UB313 (which sounds like a Rap band) is larger than Pluto.
Pluto's diameter is 1,430 miles. 2003 UB313's diameter is 1,860 miles. Not a huge difference, but a difference.
And 2002 UB313 travels twice as far from the Sun as Pluto.
Scientists now believe there are hundreds of planets located in the Kuiper Belt as big as or bigger than Pluto.
But instead of being called planets these other round worlds may be named dwarf planets.
(Do we have to be so perjorative and condescending?)
Additonal Kuiper Belt Objects with the largest albedos (reflectiveness and diameter) could keep expanding our own little neighborhood in the Cosmos.
Keep your eyes on the skies!

F**KING CRAZIES AND TIME FOR A THIRD POLITICAL PARTY
I knew immediately that John McCain had started his engine and had saddled his horse for the 2008 election when he indicated that a military option for Iran shouldn't be ruled out.
McCain wants to polish his badge as a former P.O.W. and show that he isn't timid or afraid to continue Bush's LONG WAR.
A war with Iran just might be the ticket that finally throws this planet into World War III.
The Christians and Muslims will be overjoyed.
I wish there was one statesman in America with his or her eyes on the White House in 2008 who would be a diplomat instead of a warrior.
But America may have to put up with NeoCon types that do not want to let go of the Imperialistic pitchfork that is going to throw all of our souls into a Hell on Earth.
Plenty of more details for the Devil...plenty of more reasons to make corporations richer who make the armaments.
Colin Powel was correct when he called them f**king crazies.

THOU SHALT NOT PROTEST!
"I have some lawyers looking into filing a First Amendment lawsuit against the government for what happened tonight. I will file it. It is time to take our freedoms and our country back."
"I don't want to live in a country that prohibits any person, whether or not he/she has paid the ultimate price for that country, from wearing, saying, writing, or telephoning any negative statements about the government. That's why I am going to take my freedoms and liberties back. That's why I am not going to let BushCo take anything else away from me ... or you."
Cindy Sheehan, "What Really Happened?", truthout.org. [2-1-2006]
It was the State of the Union.
Dress code: Formal Wear.
Cindy Sheehan should have worn a Versace outfit.
Not a T-shirt for Pete's sake!
And she should have hidden the anti-war message until the president mentioned his freedom and victory song...then Cindy could have had bared her shirt, and let the network's cameras pan her message...and the placid, hopeful, disingenuous State of the Union could have gotten an additional lemon twist inserted into its whisky sour.
But tossing Ms. Sheehan out is not the real issue.
This Congress and this president are threatened by the voices of protest. That they are threatened indicates how insecure they are about their war.
They want the people to swear allegiance and goose step to their fuhrer and to themselves.
Only American swastikas...I mean flags!
You are either for the president...or against him.
You are either with the terrorists...or with the president.
Don't embarrass or threaten this regime.
It will bite back.
It will put you on its list of potenial terrorists.
Victory for the Homeland!
You've been bugged!

WAR ADDICTION
Hearing that War Pesident Bush wants a $120,000,000,000 installment this month for spreading more freedom, paving the way to Victory in Iraq,
it dawned on me:
WE ARE ADDICTED TO WAR.
Oil addiction takes second place.
War is our addiction.
But this has been the planet’s addiction for millennia.
Whether
I like it or not (and I don't like it that much)
I am a part of the problem.
I am part of the addiction.
I pay my taxes.
My taxes are used in Bush's latest request.
If I don't pay my taxes, I spend time in jail (Room & Board...and unpleasant encounters).
I do a lot of criticizing.
I do a lot of satirizing.
But I am still a part of the BIG ADDICTION.
War...this Iraq war---tomorrow's new WAR by the U.S.---
is going to be funded by you and me.
Again and again.
Until we reach the end of the movie:
"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." (Einstein)

FULL OF HOPE FULL OF DOPE
He gave us his State of the Union, but it was actually his State of Mind.
He made it sound like everything was just ducky and peaches and cream.
Hopeful.
Hopeful.
Hopeful.
Full of Hope.
FULL OF DOPE!
(Give me a Rope.)
After an energy policy that was created IN SECRET by oil moguls, giving themselves huge profits, our War President wants us to believe his oil addiction admonition.
Uh-huh. The moon is made of cheese.
The president waxes on about the country's addiction to oil, but he has been waning for five years on making progress to kick the habit.
Just a lot of hot air (not gas).
There was no crash program or sense of urgency until last night.
A few mere honks were made by Bush in his 2003 State of the Union about hydrogen cars, but Bush and his Arab boyfriends, plus his American cronies, are making too much dough for anyone to believe his whimper about oil addiction.
Iraq was the same old mantra.
Don’t leave until there is victory.
“…We’re spreading freedom now…It’s amazing to see.”
And more hot air about giving health coverage to all Americans. The Clintons tried that, and they were shot down.
Bush is an appealing speaker.
He reads the script well (although some words still get garbled).
His speechwriters are superb writers.
Too bad there isn’t more veracity in the speeches.
He made it sound like everything was just ducky and peaches and cream.
Hopeful.
Hopeful.
Hopeful.
Full of Hope.

A VERY VERY SHORT STATE OF THE UNION
THE PRESIDENT: Mr. Speaker, Vice President Cheney, members of Congress, distinguished citizens and fellow citizens: By law and by custom, we are meeting here again to consider the state of the union. We come together here in this chamber with a lot of potatoes on our plate (and most of them are hot ones) (Applause).
We are at war. We will be at war forever. The world and the American people depend on me as your president and Commander-in-Chief to win the War on Terror. Right now we are facing the threat of a nuclear Iran whose current President denies the Holocaust, and wants Israel to be destroyed. Here we go again. (Applause)
Some of my critics are bugged because I’m spying on the conversations of enemies who are calling persons here in the United States. But I do this to protect the freedom and civil liberties of all Americans. The War on Terror requires new tools and new ways to deal with the evildoers who are poised to attack America again. I will do everything I can to execute the Constitution, and if I have to bug citizens I will do so with their safety in mind. It is perfectly legal. I am not a crooked president. (Applause)
So far the terrorists have not been able to penetrate safeguards that I have put in place. And no safeguard is more vital than the Patriot Act. It has guaranteed that America stays protected from the terrorists. More than ever this Bill of Rights bashing law needs to become permanent. We need it, it needs us, and the terrorists don’t want it. (Applause)
Many Americans still do not have comprehensive health care, and so I am asking all of you to take your vitamins, exercise, and don’t eat so much fat. If you get sick it’s your fault, not mine. (Applause)
The American economy is in great shape. Sure, you have to pay a little more for gas, but this is a small price to pay to live in a free and democratic society. Profits are good. Prophets are good. God is good. War is Peace. Love is Hatred. A horse is a horse. My kingdom for a horse!
Thank you and good night.

We are at war. We will be at war forever. The world and the American people depend on me as your president and Commander-in-Chief to win the War on Terror. Right now we are facing the threat of a nuclear Iran whose current President denies the Holocaust, and wants Israel to be destroyed. Here we go again. (Applause)

LOLLIPOPS DAISIES AND DEPLETED URANIUM WEAPONS
"You can't say civilization don't advance -- for every war, they kill you in a new way."
WILL ROGERS
Yes, in war don't expect lollipops and daisies.
Each side, each enemy, will use whatever weapon can produce the most success in killing the other enemy.
Mustard gas.
Atomic Bombs.
Naplalm.
Agent Orange.
Depleted Uranium Weapons.
Nobody likes war.
But in a war you must support your side.
Either win or lose.
For better or worse.
Winning supersedes morals.
The end justifies the means.
NOT ALLOWED: subjective, emotional value judgments such as "I believe that using DU weapons is immoral." (But necessary)
Although there is no absolute certainty or convincing scientific evidence that these Depleted Uranium weapons have produced the thousands and thousands and thousands of injuries and illnesses in Iraqi citizens and U.S. soldiers...still, there is the question of why these illnesses and injuries exist.
The effects strongly suggest that DU is the cause.
Question and doubt this until Doomsday.
Assert that land mines and cars are more dangerous than DU.
Say that these cancers, birth defects, and illnesses are caused by something else; or that no one knows for sure why they exist.
Use jargon and arguments from logic and philosophy.
The sicknesses and illnesses remain. And continue.
The tragedy has already occurred.
GOOD AMERICANS like GOOD GERMANS must accept what their Government dictates.
Whine and writhe, complain and criticize…it’s us or them.
But as Pogo once said,
“We have met the enemy and he is us.”

HARRY BELAFONTE AND A BAD MOON RISING
Alright...Enough of my Bush bashing and satire...but
NOT YET.
Maybe after George W. Bush leaves the White House.
After listening to Harry Belafonte talking with Wolf Blitzer tonight, I found myself sadly agreeing with Mr. Belafonte.
It was scary.
It is scary!
Not the fact that Mr. Belafonte said what he said, but that what he said had a RING OF TRUTH.
I know that millions of Pakistanis now have joined a world jihad against America.
I do not deny that this is the case, nor do I deny that IT IS dangerous.
IT IS DANGEROUS.
IT IS GETTING MORE DANGEROUS BY THE HOUR.
But the danger is not only the fact that large numbers of the Islamic community are protesting and joining this jihad.
The danger, my friends, is that America will not open its collective orbs and minds to admit that the jihad is bigger now than ever because of the bellicose and lethal actions that have been waged in the name of Democracy in the Global War on Terror.
Harry Belafonte does not mince words.
He is calling George W. Bush a Terrorist.
Is the Terror outside of America real?
Yes it is.
Has America done any terrorizing?
Mr. Belafonte says yes...emphatically!
Mr. Belafonte points out such things as torture and the collateral-damage-murder of innocent men, children and women by the United States.
A bad moon is rising.
A BAD MOON HAS BEEN RISING SINCE 9/11.
I am more afraid now of the terrorists than before September 11, 2001.
George W. Bush has been spreading something, but it hasn't been Democracy.
What should we do?
What will we do?
Jesus help us!

A RANCH IS NOT A PLANTATION
"George and I live on a ranch. Well, we do not exactly live there, but we vacation there a lot.
So I know the difference between a plantation and a ranch."
"George and I also do not support (nor will we ever have any) slaves (except for the American people who faithfully pay their taxes to bankroll us and the Iraq war)."
"And so the former First Lady was quite out of line when she called the GOP a plantation. There are no slaves in this fine party (except for the lobbyists who we pay)."
The Republican party ended slavery a long time ago."
"Plantations are a thing of the past. To use such language is a racist anachronism."
"Well, thank you. I must get ready to return to the old plant...I mean the ranch. Toodle-doo."
